Are you a regular ATM user?? Then beware, ATMs now-a-days are doling out fake notes, which should be carefully noticed. Most of us  do not even check the amount that comes out of an ATM, its obvious that we believe that the computer does not cheat us. That's fine. But some incidents in some parts of chennai have shocked customers and Bank authorities as well which is now a serious issue to be taken care of.

One incident which was published in a local newspaper and which was not made public issue happened in Mylapore, Chennai. One regular customer like everyday used his ATM card and debited money from a nationalised bank ATM. As most of the notes were Rs500/-, he wanted change and so he went to a nearby grocery store and did shopping. While paying the bill, the Grocery store manager refused his note as it was fake one!!! He checked it clearly and was able to find that it really was a fake one. He immediately contacted the Bank officials and told them about the incident. They apologized and changed the note for a new one. The customer exclaimed in his words,"I was a regular customer to the nearby store and so they did not file a compliant with the police for the fake note. What if it had been a different shop. I cannot even imagine the consequences."

What the customer went through was really unimaginable. All of us would have never thought about this even once all these days when we had used the ATMs. That too when we take a huge amount of money we do not even have the time to check once if the money we had debited is correct or not. Also most of the fake notes are very hard to find out as they are being printed in most advanced technology and it is now the current business for some people. Months ago RBI issued a notice all over India stating to look for Fake notes with the serial numbers starting with 2AC and 2AQ. Its actually surprising that Fake notes cannot be found out even by the Bank people as they do transactions in a bulk. Most the notes that are being printed fake are Rs500 and Rs1000 and so beware of that. Also some banks like Axis, have a policy where Rs100 notes are credited into the ATM for curbing the ATM fake note problem.

Whatever the safety measures are, it is our responsibility to look out for fake notes and inform the bank officials immediately if we find out one.
