I had written one article in boddunan on how to save electricity in our homes. I had explained how a CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamp) bulb and other energy saver bulbs are useful in saving electricity when compared to other traditional bulbs and tube lights. Recently, I was reading a science magazine and came to know other aspects of these energy saver bulbs. I just want to write some dangerous aspects of these bulbs and how to use and handle them properly.

®    Health department of Briton has warned that CFL bulbs are very dangerous if they break. If one CFL bulb breaks in a room, we have to stay outside that particular room for about 15 minutes. The gas that is present inside these bulbs contains mercury. Mercury is dangerous than led. CFLs sold in India have mercury content ranging from 3 to 13 mili grams. If we breathe this gas, it causes headache like migraine and if we touch this mercury, it causes skin problems like allergy.
®    Health department of Briton also suggested that we should not clean broken pieces of these bulbs using a vacuum cleaner. Because vacuum cleaner spreads this dangerous gas to other rooms as well. So we have to clean them carefully with a brush and dispose them carefully.
®    Always use hand gloves while handling CFL bulbs.
®    Put these pieces in a plastic cover and seal it.
®    Dispose them in a separate dustbin carefully because these broken pieces may damage the environment. .
