Within ten years of western part of Bhubaneswar, capital city of Orissa, becomes the hub of numerous institutions. Students from across the Indian and globe reach here for education. Before finishing their courses, they hope for a better placement opportunity. For the lure of placement, they are turning into these professional and technical educational institutes. The quality placement of institution is directly proportional to the standard of institutes. What are the placement opportunities in Orissa? What are separate criteria which industry trying to find out from prospective workers? Quality placement is key for success. On the other hand, students should be aware of placement scams. Some times various institutions are trying hard to reach to 100 percentages placement guarantees, by making informal arrangement with companies and industries, by giving placement for six months. This is not an example of quality placement. After that students are driven out of the company without experience certificate and proper salary.

Owing to major number of professional and technical institutions it is clear that there are numerous students passing out from these institutions. Industry requires a professional that can fulfill their need but without being abundant. Here, the efficiency of human intelligence matters the most. Education qualifies that one can build the career in the industry for the rest of life. It is clear that one can have very broad education; it is the preparation for life. Are most educational institutions properly certified from Government of India? The students have to be pure in mind which institutions are pursuing wrongful conduct in their placement departments.

How students are facing difficulties in getting quality campus placements is a matter of grave concern. Profound thinking in these subjects is the need of the hour. Few years back, due to policies favorable for educational institutions, many new professional and technical colleges opened their branches in Orissa. The state government is expressing satisfaction on the growth of the education sector. On the other hand, there is no policy to scrutinize quality of placement and exceptional educational system. Many a times final year students are feeling left out due to bad placement and worse schooling in their institution. Of late, there have been numerous vernacular news channels in the state of Orissa. There are voluminous news room discussions on how to improve overall scholastic standard of Orissa. Numerous scholars reach there and showcase their opinion in a vibrant way. When it comes for real step towards improvement of the educational system, most of the scholars prefer to stay out of the system. They fear partisan attitudes and for this they stay neutral.

Industries do not like to invest in fresher as they tend to go for experience professionals. Within fresher, there is huge demand for engineering students as companies from information technology hire freshers from electrical, mechanical engineering students. That is why educational institutions tend to prefer students from engineering background so that during campus placements they can be easily hired by companies. Economic slowdown affects mostly the information technology companies. Statistics tell that these companies hire most students in campus placements. Manufacturing industries prefer to experience professionals. During recession and economic slowdown manufacturing industries and information technology industries are affected hugely; they reduce their cost by implementing smart economic cut. At this time, the campus hiring of students goes down drastically. During this time, these companies prefer experienced professionals and they decrease hiring of freshers. On the other hand, information technology-enabled service companies depend on the fiscal state of offshore companies. That is why if European and US economy goes through depression that can affect campus placement in India too.

Big information technology companies like Infosys, Satyam, TCS and Accenture prefer students with a first class career. That is why some students miss the bus to get selected there. In the recent years, mechanical companies and civil companies, tend to go for first class career students and these students with inferior records in previous academics are not short listed. On the other hand, extensive manufacturing industries such as cement, iron and electricity companies ignore freshers from security point of view. In my view government of Orissa has to be proactive in making educational policies. There should be proper checks and balances to clean corrupt educational institutions. Government colleges of Orissa have many acres of land and big buildings. But appropriate faculty and proper laboratories are lacking here. Therefore the students do not get proper academic training and so government colleges have to face a huge problem in quality campus placements.

Biggest worries of modern times are the commercialization of education. From elementary education to high end professional and technical education, it has become a cash crop for owners of scholastic institutions. Side by side, owing to lack of proper education in government run educational institutions, slowly educated guardians are shifting their children to renowned private schools. Many rich people run these profitable private educational institutions to establish themselves in society. The sad part is that there is no identifiable interest to bring back quality placements for students and there is no such proper coordination in campus department to pursue companies to do so. Immediately after admission into specialized institutions, responsible colleges should try hard to bring companies for quality placements such as management trainees for students. Government of Orissa should make mandatory for companies to add freshers as their management trainee and then only companies will not be hiring experience persons for these posts.

Some industries like to hire experience human resource manager and ignore freshers. Then colleges feel helpless in bringing campus placements. All stakeholders should unite and oath to give chance to fresher in entry level jobs so that quality campus placement of students can bring proper and abundant opportunities for their career growth.
