Well, summer season has started. The intensity of the sun’s rays is increasing day by day. And it’s evaporating our precious drinking water sources and moisture from the atmosphere, thus creating a very dry environment. This increasing heat is also affecting our body temperature and hence making us vulnerable to catch many diseases.

The common diseases that we could catch in summer:

Due to ignoring water intake we could suffer from dehydration. Other diseases include; Sunstroke, dizziness, palpitation, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.

Main Reasons why we catch these Diseases:

  • Due to working or walking, bare head or bare foot, under the sun for too long.
  • Due to going out of the house hungry and thirsty, in the hot afternoon.
  • Due to immediately going in the sun after sitting under AC or cooler.
  • Due to immediately drinking cold water after coming from outside.
  • Due to eating spicy and hot food most of the time and drinking alcohol.
  • Instead of lose cotton clothes, wearing tight fitting synthetic clothes.

These are the main causes of summer diseases.

We could enjoy the summer without worrying about these diseases by keeping some simple, yet important things in mind.

Prevention is better than cure.

So let’s see some of the ways in which you could prevent these diseases:

  • During summer the intense rays of the sun continuously dehydrates you. That’s why drinking cool, sweet liquids and eating light foods could be very healthy.
  • Always eat something and drink lots of water before going out of the house into the hot sun. Never leave the house empty stomach.
  • Try to avoid eating heavy or oily food during summer because during hot seasons our digestive system slows down, so the heavy food doesn’t digest properly. And if you overeat these heavy foods then you may suffer from vomiting and diarrhea.
  • Wear loose cotton clothes with light colors.
  • Whenever possible cover your head and face with a scarf before going out in the sun.
  • Eat onions and also keep an onion in your pocket.
  • Don’t consume cold drinks from outside. Instead consume some nutritious cold drinks that you could make in your home.
  • Home-made cold drinks include butter milk, lassi, yogurt, orange juice, lemonade and many other such tasty health drinks.
  • Apart from this you should also eat cucumber, spinach, lemon, watermelon, etc.
  • Drink at least 2 to 3 litres of cold water every day.
  • If you do yoga, then you could also practice ‘Sheetal and Chandra Bhedan Pranayam’.

So these are some few precautions and practices that could protect you from summer diseases. These precautions are just common sense that our mothers have taught us in the childhood. But as adults we tend to ignore these simple rules and unnecessarily suffer from summer diseases.
