The Old Testament advocates ``Tooth for a tooth and an eye for an eye’’. Through the New Testament it can be known that Jesus Christ taught, 11love thy neighbor as thyself’’. ``if a man strikes you on the right cheek show him the left’’. This shows how a noble soul will act when meeting with adverse situations. Man’s nature is to desire to take revenge, for faults done to him. The love for revenge breeds hatred and jealousy. The man to whom a wrong has been done waits for a chance to return the wrong. But when he actually takes revenge against the wrong-doer, he may find that he has not got the expected happiness or contentment. On the other hand, he may even feel sorry that he had acted in haste. He may even be punished by low or in some other manner. But if he forgets the wrong done to him, and even when he meets his enemy he does not show his anger or ill will, but forgives the other, he will realize that his action is appreciated by others. More than that he himself feels that he has achieved something is that he had not expected. He experiences a noble feeling. The act of forgiveness had given him nobility. The story of Yousoff forgiving his son’s murderer is ample testimony to the truth of this proverb.

• Jesus Christ emphasized on loving god and living our neighbor. He taught people to overcome evil by doing well. He also showed it through example. He practiced what he preached.
• If your neighbors or some other people may do harm to you, you should not take revenge it will do no good. Repay evil with good.
• Lord Jesus, you have taught us to love on another and even our enemies. You have also shown it by your example on the cross. When you were dying, you forgave all those who did harm to you. Help us to forgive those who harm us or insult us. Give us this great gift of love, O lord! – pray.
