Where is Jallianwala Bagh and its history?

#) Jallian Walla Bagh is a garden located in the North Indian City of Amristar and is loacted about a quarter mile from the famous Golden Temple.

#)Amristar is a city loacted in the North Western Part of India and it is about 450 kms north west from Delhi.The  map below shows the exact location of the city Amristar where the massacre took place in 1919

#)Jallianwala bagh was a garden belonging to the Jalla, derives name from that of the owners of this piece of land during the Sikh times

.#)It was then the property of the family of Sardar Himmat Singh,who was a noble in the court of Maharaja Ranjit Singh,who came originally from the village of Jalla, whichis at present located in Fatehgarh Sahib district of the Punjab.

#)The family were collectively called as Jallhevale or simply Jallhe or Jalle, although their principal seat later became Alavarpur in Jalandhar district.

What Happened Exactly on April 13, 1919?

#)Aftre the world war I in 1918, there were a statement , that an Englishwoman was molested in the streets of Punjab city, Amristar.

#)The so called General dyer, who was the Raj's local commander issued an order requiring all Indians using that street to crawl its length on their hands and knees

#)He also authorized the indiscriminate, public whipping of natives who came within lathi length of British policemen.

#)But the Sikh community was against this and they opposed the dyer's statement

#)On April 13th 1919, thousands of People,mostly sikhs, gathered at Jallianwala Bagh on the event of the Sikh's new year and harvest festival, called Baisakhi.The picture below shows the only way that leads to the Jallian Wala Bagh

#)This festival was celebrated for more than 200 years starting fom 1669

#)The meeting was scheduled at 4:30 pm

#)After one hour from the commencement of the meeting, dyer marched about 90 Indian British soldier into the park and laso with two armoured cars carrying Machine guns

#)The peaceful meeting was distured by the dyer's entry as he ordered the soldiers to fire at the people without any warning

#)As there was only one entrance where the army troops wers standing and no other way was there

#)The firing was continued for more than 15 minutes, with 1,650 rounds of ammunition were unloaded into the screaming, terrified crowd, some of whom were trampled by those desperately trying to escape.The picture below shows the garden of Jallianwala Bagh where the meeting took place and there was no other way fro the people to escape as the only was occupied by dyer and his trrops

#)There were above 379 dead and over 1,500 wounded not only by firing ,but due to the  stampedes at the narrow gates and also people who sought shelter from the firing by jumping into the solitary well inside the compound (The well as shown in the image below- present picture).

#) A plaque in the monument at the site, set up after independence, reports that 120 bodies were plucked out of the well during that time

What happened after the firing?

#)After the firing dyer reported at the headquarter  to his suprevisors that he had been "confronted by a revolutionary army".

#)A feedback telegram was sent to the dyer by the Lieutenant Governor of punjab which stating that "Your action is correct. Lieutenant Governor approves:"

#)A commisison called Hunter commission was formed to investigate this and dyer's reply to the Hunter commission Enquiry was"I think it quite possible that I could have dispersed the crowd without firing but they would have come back again and laughed, and I would have made, what I consider, a fool of myself."

Churchill's Statement

# Winston Churchill's statement regarding the Jallianwala Bagh was incident are

"The Indians were 'packed together so that one bullet would drive through three or four bodies'; the people 'ran madly this way and the other. When fire was directed upon the centre, they ran to the sides. The fire was then directed to the sides. Many threw themselves down on the ground, and the fire was then directed on the ground. This was continued for eight or ten minutes, and it stopped only when the ammunition had reached the point of exhaustion"

Final Revenge

#)Here come the true hero Mr.Udam Singh who decides to Take a revenge on dyer and plans to assasinate him

#)He was raised at Khalsa Orphanage and he saw the happening in his own eyes

#)The incident of Jallianwala Bagh is the turning poin in his life as he was greatly shaken by this massacre

#)He also took a silent vow at the Golden temple to take a revenge on dyer who was the reason for the massacre and he became active in politics and also became a revolutionarist

#)He left to Africa in 1920 and later moved to Nairobi

#)Udham Singh was also sent to Jail in 1927 as he possessed armas abd later released in 1931 at Amristar

#)He continued his revolutionary activities for 3 years in Punjab actively

#)In 1933 He visited his native village ,then went to Kashmir on a clandestine revolutionary mission, where he was able to dupe the police and then he escaped to Germany.

#)He reached London in 1934 and he was constantly in move to Itlay,France,Switzerland and Austria and then reached England again

#)He got the requird weapons and waited for the right time to assasinate dyer

#)On 13th March 1940 almost over 21 years after the massacre Finally Udham Singh shot dyer at Caxton Hall where the meeting was taking place between East India Association and the Royal Central Asian Society

#)After Shooting he didnt escape and was arrested and it is shown in the image below

#)On April 1 1940, Udham was charged for murder

#)In jail he went 42 day hunger strike

#)When he was commmitted to trial and asked what was his name he said "Ram Mohammad Singh Azad"

#)He alos explained at his trial "I did it because I had a grudge against him.He was the real culprit. He deserved it. He wanted to crush the spirit of my people, so I had to crush him"

#)On the 31st July, 1940, Udham Singh was hanged at Pentonville jail, London

Response from the World press Media

#)This act was praised not only by all Indians but also by the Press all over the world

#)Press all over the world remembered the story of Jallianwala Bagh and held Dyer fully responsible for the events.

#)Udham Singh was called "fighter for freedom" by The Times, London, and his action was said to be "an expression of the pent-up fury of the downtrodden Indian People".

#)Bergeret, the famous meedia from Rome, ascribed the greatest significance to the circumstance and praised Udham Singh's action as courageous.

#)Berliner Borsen Zeitung called the event "The torch of the Indian freedom"

#)The German radio repeatedly broadcast: "The cry of tormented people spoke with shots". and "Like the elephants, the Indians never forgive their enemies. They strike them down even after 20 years"

#)In this way Udham Singh sacrificed his life for the country...... Udhan is a Hero and he will be remembered always
