You visit any city of India each one has it own favourite place when it comes to eating good things in life and Calcutta which is now Kolkata has such food joints all over the places. These are the hot spots of both the gourmands and the gourmets. The size of the city was relatively small and only the central part of the city was known as proper Calcutta during the British Raj was mainly inhabited by the English people and the New Market which is also known as Hogg Market is still the main attraction for people of all walks of life for shopping as it offers a breath-taking range of variety in all kinds of goods. With the rising population over the centuries it spread in all directions. There existed a pronounced divide in the culture between the conservative North and the modern and liberal South. Over all both these parts are still very cosmopolitan and people from all the country if not the world are welcome and living in perfect harmony and peace.

When it comes to eating if you happen to visit Kolkata and confine your choices to a renowned few restaurants and eateries. you may be regretting that on your return. The street food in Kolkata offers a mouth-watering range and relative cheapness in prices. From puchka on the Metro gali to biriyani at Siraj. In between you have countless roadside eateries which exist in and around Writers' Building, where you can gorge on the all the authentic Bengali dishes. Kolkata has the reputation of fitting everyone's budget. And these roadside eateries which are mostly run by the people from the suburban areas cater to the needs of millions of people who visit the city. Even old and renowned restaurants like Alia, Shabir, Royal sell delicious non-veg food at a price which is never going to burn a hole in your pocket. You would like the old world charm as well as their hospitality. And if you intend to tickle your taste-buds with sweets you have sweet shops all over Kolkata but the ones located in northern part have formidable reputation.
