Talking about kaiyendhi bhavans, I love the veechu barotta and Chilly chicken at Grand fast foods near Anna Nagar tower. The chilly chicken is BRIGHT RED in color and it is really spicy. And for seventy odd rupees for one large portion of chilly chicken and three barottas, it is a great deal.
There was a push cart near SBOA school Anna Nagar, where a rajasthani/gujrati lady used to sell chaat. At about five or six in the evening, the components of the chaat (pani, chutney etc. etc.) were freshly made and brought to the location. The chaat used to be really spicy and many customers used to tell the lady that the heat is too much for them. She would tell them that that is how chaat ought to be! Not that I was complaining. Five rupees for a plate of panipuri and ten for a heaping mound of bhel (best bhel I have had in Chennai) was enough to make me happy. I don't see the pushcart anymore at the old location. Anyone knows where it went?
Outside the museum at Egmore, there are a lot of sandwich stalls. They serve good, hot sandwiches. The prices are good too.
Mercury hotel behind Sonex towers in Anna nagar. Serves excellent mutta barotta. I like the hotel too because it has pictures of Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose and many other national heroes all over its walls.
