Why do we see colorful stars when we rub our eyes vigorously?

Not only stars, many different shapes in vivid colors can also be seen. What is the reason for this phenomenon?

Kalyani , this happens because when we rub our eyes we put pressure on them and our optic nerve translates that pressure into different types of colorful visual objects...

because there are blood cells in optic nerve which you apply pressure on

Due to Rubbing of our eyes it suddenly turns in to black so we can see stars in our eyes.
