You should not post pictures of other people on public sites without their permission. May be you need to mask the faces.

it is important to be aware that in the event that you hire a photographer, just because you are not the sole owner of these images that it means you will not have some rights. A photographer will automatically have copyright ownership over the images, but different photographers will have their own copyright policies which will provide the client with different advantages. You will more often that not be provided with copies of your images, but many photographers may also provide you with a license which will grant you use of the images for your own, non-profitable use.

This may cost you extra in terms of your overall price, but it means you are able to make copies of the images to send to friends and families, as well as being able to share these on social networking sites which allow you to upload photographs. In order to be aware of what rights you will have with your license though, it is imperative that you read through your contract before signing so you are well aware of your rights and the terms of the agreement.

Maverick,

Thanks for the input. The images are mine - I took the photogrpahs. But they may include faces of people. Do I need model releases for my articles on boddunan which include these photos or are my articles on this site classed as 'editorial' in which case I wouldnt need model releases?

I am quite happy to leave photos out of my articles but in some cases the photos aid the readability and enjoyment factor of my writings.

Many thanks

If you use Photos or Paintings, it amounts to violation of Copyright. But there are some sites that offer Copyright free Photos or paintings. I personally use my own Paintings in my article.

Thanks Sumit. My question relates to my photos which I would use in the publications on this website. They would be of people and property which could be identified. As we receive a reward for our publications on boddunan, I wondered what are the ramifications without model or property releases. Does that make sense? Many thanks

You may have to avoid all images that are copy protected and use images only with the proper written permission from the respective owners of the images. Use are free to use those images that are licensed under public licenses such as GPL/CC/MIT etc as per the stated license.
