What is CMOS battery??

My PC time gets changed everytime I switch it on and unable to set it as default time! I have been told to change the CMOS battery. I want to know what is it and how much will it cost!

CMOS(Complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor) battery powers the computer motherboard to run its clock when the computer is shut down. The battery sits on your Motherboard which you can remove and replace when it is drained.

CMOS battery also known as real time clock (RTC) is a short term for Complementary Metal oxide Semiconductor.
