Oreo is the most recent version of Android now.

Oreo 8.0 released in 2017 is the latest Android version in market now.

Recently in August, 2015 the Android version for google called Android 6.0 Marshmallow is released however, the most used and currently abundant version of android in the global market is Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Lollipop versions of Android are considered to be highly compatible with wide range of apps.  The new version Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the latest and yet to be used. :-)
