our education system was designed to produce highly efficient clerks. This is exactly what we are producing now. Its true Indian and Chinese people are regarded high but both are contributing at the bottom of the value chain. As far as managers are concerned we are still producing middle managers. The exception we are getting is again due to the Indian Diaspora who had a chance to go abroad.
.
Our system is bookish with little emphasis on practical knowledge. Biggest difference between IITs and MITs is that IITs produce job seekers whereas MITs produce job creator.
Problem is not with IITs or other graduation institutes but with the mind set we are brought up with. Our system puts a lot of stress on students giving little leeway for their self development. Parents and peer expectation even a high school level makes most of us risk averse, killing any entrepreneur spirit which we might have had.

I have written an article on this topic. please read it.So i think we do need a system over haul.

Yes, our education needs to be more practical and knowledge centric rather than theory centric.

People are open to trying different techniques than ever before. So, it is definitely interesting for students of this generation.

I believe an education system based on Martin Luther King's quote, “Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education.” is what India needs

The object of an education system is to prepare future citizens for serving role as good citizens and play useful role for nation. The education system should be accordingly framed. Thus syylabus must have some content of moral values (not religious), role of an individual in society,  historic background of nation and its place in world, expectation of the nation from and individual. There should be appropriate combination of theory and practice. After mparting general edication till level twelve,  there should be professional trainng in medicine, law, accountancy, engineering or any useful pursuit.

well my answer would be YES..

After so many changes are happening why not the exam pattern? If is known thing that standards of Indian education is very high compared to other countries and any one having India degrees can easy get a good job in higher positions in other countries but other countries citizens do not have the facility as they have to improve there level inorder to get  a job in India...If india is having such a standards then exam pattern should also be changed according to that standards or else there is no meaning of conducting a exam...Simple muggingup and passing the exam can be done by anyone..hard time comes when anything is to be implemented..

Our education system is not at all practical, what is needed is to introduce more practical lessons and decrease theory which doesn't help much, thiis is precisely why we see all our new projects remaining only in paper instead of taking off..
