The politicians, bureaucrats, lawyers get more scope. New state means more chief minister, ministers, courts etc. This increases public expenses and people suffer. But they are shortsighted. There is a benefit also. smaller regions may develop more by separating from big state.

Ideally, a state should be neither too big nor too small.

The problem of demanding had started since independence. When Pakistan got divided from India, it gave encouragements to some people to even separate themselves on some irrelevant issues. However, the difficult of running a country is something which these people are ignoring. It is mere politics and nothing else.

It just goes to show how narrow minded we Indians are, we don't think as a one nation - it is always coming from this state or speaking such and such a language ...no wonder there is so little social progress in our country!

I agree with Gulshan ji this is because our politicians are more interested for it. But there are benifits too like smaller the state is better is the focus, better law and order.

Even if one more state is created, it increases all the technicalities and formalities that are associated with it. A whole lot of political needs arise like CM, other ministers, etc. Even local government offices increase too. And moreover, there is also a need to more development. But in India, development means a chance to be corrupt.

I think major reason is politicians. They want to attract a group of people. So they stimulate people to go for separate state. I fear that it will become as a trend. It is not good for our country.

There could be several reasons but dividing a state until there is no alternative, does not seem right to me.
