If we make a list of famous persons of a nation....

Which nation will come first???

I think it's India. Not only because India is the second most populated country of the world, it has countless cultures and languages to include. Indian Film industry is the biggest in the world. India is the biggest democratic country of the world. Obviously, list of film celebrities, writers, politicians, sport personalities and social workers should be large than any other country, even UK, US and China. Am I right?

Producing exalted standards of excellence has nothing to do with the size of a country. Despite it’s size and population, How many Gold medal winners in Olympics could India produce ? How many Nobel Laureats could it produce.?
Just look at South Korea, Which attained its freedom just 2 years before India and which is much lesser in size compared to India has produced more number of Eminent sportsmen than India. South Korea is not only leagues ahead of India in Sports, but in every sphere of development.
My conclusion is, it’s not the size of the country that decides the high standards in any sphere, it’s the sense of belonging and commitment of the people that play a key role..

We do not know much about history and culture of other countries except, maybe Bangladesh and Pakistan since they are our own offspring. We do not know much about even Nepal, our neighbour and a Hindu kingdom so forget about other countries. We know only as much as what is shown in movies or from visiting other countries on vacations or for work purposes, but we don't really know what drives them, what are their values. So it will not be right to say that ours is the country with most number of famous people!. Rambabu has rightly pointed out the same fact by quoting example of South Korea. Look at Japan which was mowed down to ashes in 1945 by atom bombs which shows its presence even today in crippled, cancer-ridden people etc. But see how it has risen like a phoenix and has advanced in all fields ahead of us. We are lagging behind Japan by at least 50 years! Look at Malaysia, a fully Muslim-state which has advanced so much only with the help of tourism, in spite of still following their religious beliefs. Look at Singapore, a country not larger than Mumbai, a single city of India, is at least 100 years ahead of us in all scopes. Not to mention about other European countries which were struggling with communism until as late as 1980s! Do you think they achieved it all without contribution from their own people? While I agree that we should be proud of what we are and of our people who have been shining examples of all sterling qualities, but at the same time, we should also look upon others with interest and respect. Why go any further, when we are so much familiar with China! Currently they rule the world from sports to industries and I am sure their list would far exceed ours. Unfortunately our school syllabuses do not teach us any thing more beyond our geographical limits!

Come on look at the size of our country and then count the achievements of our so-called lists. You would want to beg for more, and more. We have done almost nothing in any field apart from singing patriotic songs on 26 Jan and 15 Aug.
