Define Freedom.....In your Words
Most recently I watched the latest release of Mega star Mammootty. The offbeat movie titled Munnariyippu was hugely appreciated by critics for its performances, screenplay, direction and above all, how each person defines freedom in his opinion.
The movie tells the story of a prisoner who spends 20 years in prison and he is not willing to get out it after life sentence (12 years), as he feels jail doesn't put him in 'chains'. He is happy inside the jail and never went outside for a parole. He was sentenced for killing two women - his wife and employer, though he claims that he is innocent. A young lady journalist got interested in his story and strange writings and philosophy and wants to write a book on his real life. Though she brings him out of prison, gives him everything he needs to write, she keeps him like a prisoner and he never writes though she pressurizes him......
The film holds the suspense....if he is a murderer or not, till the climax and he kills the journalist to return back to prison. It took 3 days for me to interpret the real meaning of the movie, as it's nowhere explained in the movie the real story. Yes, in his opinion, anything that blocks his freedom to think and do, whether it's outside or inside prison is a restriction.....
