What can be done to improve Indians' living condition?

Despite Mangalyaan or any other space mission, we need not find new reasons why Americans and Europeans have always pictured Indians as poor fellows, whether its Hollywood movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' or the recent controversies over a cartoon published in a leading American daily. Truth is that, more than 22% poor people of world population are Indians!!!! A matter of shame or something else, I don't know.....

Agenda of new Government definitely includes this 'Biggest problem', how to make a better India? How to improve living conditions of Indians? If you are asked the same question, what's your opinion?

Some people may give opinion, Bring back the black money to India while some others say, End corruption. But most important I feel that, laborers - is the most exploited and weaker section of Indian society. Human resources - the cheapest resource of this poor nation!!! Though they work hard, they never earn what they actually deserve. As long as minimum wages are not assured to working sector, living conditions of poor are not going to improve. Perhaps, it may rise the price of commodities we purchase. Yet i feel, though difficult to implement across the nation, it can definitely give better results......

Do you have any other suggestion??? Your answers are welcome.

When you say that -" But most important I feel that, laborers - is the most exploited and weaker section of Indian society."--why don't they think about controlling the population. Why on earth they give birth to more children when they know they can't provide the basic needs for their children. Once this is controlled Govt.can do the rest to bring everybody at par. When basic education is made mandatory and offered free of cost still the weaker section do not allow their children to go to school. Education is the next important thing that needs to spread wide and far to eradicate poverty from our country.

Sandhya Rani But can we deny the fact that no of children in a family has significantly reduced in the past 30 years if we compare with per-independent period?? Now total life span of a normal Indian has increased considerably, if we compare to the citizens before 50 years. That's one of the reasons why though birth rate has reduced, total population still multiplying. - Sandhya Rani - 10 years ago

If the basic reason is asked for the improvement of the indian society, I would say that if Indians would improve their mentality and pose an end to the various kinds of discrimination of society then, we would improve a lot. If the wealthy Indians are ready to help the poor ones to live in a better standard of life and the poor ones are ready to improve by themselves, then, India can improve a great deal.

India is a country where villages are more and the the farmers, who are the inhabitants of villages live on agriculture. A farmer is the country's main food earner. Such a key factor has been neglected for years. In Punjab, most of the importance was given to farming and farmers. It's the richest state in the country. The govt should take a cue from Punjab and give utmost importance to agriculture and farmers. This is enough to elevate the living conditions of India.

Population control is only and only solution to upgrade living standard. Second thing control population education and specially women education is very helpful. Corruption is also cause of poverty in our country.

We talk about population control. But i think Government's role is also important. They need to bring out schemes which are favouring labors of our people. They need to first make the lower segment of people strong and make them believe that if they work hard, they could live a well settle live. They can also be rich. I am happy that government has to come out with plans like " Make in India" where more work is given to locals. Skill talent enhancement is all we need in this country. Living of people will keep on increasing.

Sandhya Rani Ya, that's the reason why India and China holds maximum poor persons of the world....almost 40-45%. I read it somewhere...

Yet what's your opinion? How can we reduce the present statistics?

suni51 We cannot reduce the gap unless government restrict the child birth rate like China has done. But we have no such strong willpower in our leaders. - suni51 - 10 years ago

There is no alternative to population control. There is too much density of ppulation so that we are left with large numbers with few resources. Best use of natural and human reources is key to bring overall wealth increase. Then there is need for better and ore equitale distribution of wealth.

I feel in India many people are of the attitude to have food without doing any work. There are so many beggars around each and every city who have no physical disabilities but still they are not interested in working and lead a respectable life. Fine, one may think what kind of job will be offered to such uneducated people. They may not get a job in an office but they can work as labours. Now comes the question that why labours are not paid according to their effort. For this the administrators must work hard to give the labourers a standard life and India will see a huge growth.

We should support Swatch Bharath to begin with. Next is to make the conditions better for everyone in our surroundings and to do the same for all, eventually.

Honestly it is not right to put the entire burden on the government although they have a major role to play. Each individual can contribute by being a good citizen, law abiding etc ...It does not take money or economic stability to contribute positively to the society and once you do that automatically your life changes for the better ! I have seen many very poor people come up in life through sheer hard work and determination, so it is possible !

Eradicate poverty from our nation by giving employment to all the people who are willing to work. If people are employed, they can improve their standard of living. Our government should take steps to provide free and compulsory education to the people who are economically backward. There are number of resources in our country for our development. But we do not use these resource properly. I can say that maximum utilization of resources is the best way to make our country a developed country. We cannot say that India is an underdeveloped country. India is a developing country. But, India is not a fast developing country. The development in our country is very slow. Compare to previous years, the number of illiterate people are few in our country. Young generation are getting good jobs as a result of  getting proper education. There are number of technically qualified people in our country. Most of these people go abroad to work and to get better earnings. India is not a developed country to accommodate all these high qualified people because the number of companies in our country is very few. If India can develop more companies, more people will get job in our own country and no need to depend other countries for their livelihood. We can hope a day that India will turn as a developed country like America and Japan.
