Costumes and accessories used in movies.....

Movie making is very expensive and it includes the cost of costumes, accessories, cosmetics etc.....I often think, after the film shooting what will happen to the costumes used for just one hour or two? Are they for rent? Or will actors get those costumes and jewellery? Or they sell to someone else? It's not possible to give them back to showrooms? Will anybody buy used clothes, even if they are expensive? What happens to stitched churidars, skirts and blouses that will never be fit for someone else?

Have you ever thought of this?

A very good question, I wish I had the answer. I think the costumes are sold outside India or may be they are sent out for auction within India or outside. In India blind fan following of actors can help to get the used clothes to be bought and sold easily.

Sandhya Rani yet we rarely hear about such auctions....

For Malayalam serial actors, they need to buy their own costumes. I think it's applicable for Hindi television actors too....not sure.

There is no fixed way, how the used costumes are used or thrown away. If the costumes are used in a social movie, after the completion of the film, a producer donated them for an old age home. But the costumes used in a historical movie neither sold nor auctioned. The costumes used in Mughal-e-Azam were still kept in the salarjung museum, Hyderabad.

Most of them are supplied by costume suppliers esp for junior artists and for lead roles either the artists keep them or producers use them in their other productions.

In fact the costumes get used until the shots are finished and apparently they take a few days or weeks and 2 or 3 sets of the same costumes are made. After that it is auctioned or as Sunil said, slightly altered and used for other films by junior artistes.

The actors get the costumes used in movies. These become their property and they may dispose as the like
