There is need to develop attitude of dong things systematically. Not only think about only the work in hand but also only the particular part of the job immediately in hand. One has to adopt attitude of Arjun who could see only 'eye of bird' and not even the whole bird while shooting at.

Think of a magnifying glass.Hold it against the sun rays. Direct the beam that emerges out of magnifying glass on to a bunch of Hay. It burns in no time. That's the best example for concentration. See that all your thoughts are converged in to a single point. And this is possible only through Pranayama.

I feel the best way towards improving our concentration is to clear all the distracting thoughts from our minds for at least a reasonable period of time. Meditation surely helps to achieve this. However, it needs practice. We should also practice not to entertain negative and unproductive thoughts before doing any type of work. Finally, nature walk and soothing music also helps the mind to stay relaxed and focused at the same time.
