Pineapple is very nutritious and contains lots of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and enzymes which benefit our digestive system. It is also a very good source of vitamin C. Pineapple is also believed to help in maintaining and controlling weight gain. They contain micro-nutrients that are believed to protect against cancers and prevent formation of clots, thus help prevent heart diseases. It is helpful in cleansing colons and kidneys and thus help in removing toxins from our body. Pineapples therefore form an important part in detox diets. Pineapple contains a mixture of enzymes called bromelain. Bromelain blocks the production of kinins that form when there is inflammation.

Pineapples are also rich in B-complex group of vitamins like folates, thiamin, pyridoxine, riboflavin and minerals like copper, manganese and potassium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids which helps control heart rate and blood pressure. Copper is a helpful cofactor for red blood cell synthesis. Manganese is a co-factor for the enzyme superoxide dismutase, which is a very powerful free radical scavenger.
