I want to know which one is the best cough syrup which provides relief quickly & not much costly too?

Cough is a very irritating and disturbing one.


According to me, Benedryl works out very well with Cough. 
But there are many side effects associated with Cough Syrups. They cause lot of drowsiness to the effected person.  


Here are some home made tips to get instant relief and control cough:
1. Take honey, dry ginger powder and candy sugar(khadi shakhar) in equal portions and mix well. Keep this mixture on the tongue and swallow it gently and slowly.

2. Take a small part of Haritaki and keep it in mouth. Swallow the juice that comes out of it.

These tips are very easy to make and gives instant relief and reduces the cough too.

When I suffer from cough problem, I prefer to buy Benadryl cough Syrup. It is very useful.

Some good cough syrups available are Benadryl, Vasarishtam, and Adulsa. But these cotain some pre-defined percentage of alcohol and amy cause drowsiness. A good rpeparation called Honituss is a very good cough syrup and does not cause drowsiness. Honituss is safe to be given to young children as well as infants.


Sucking on a mixture of jaggery, dry ginger powder, turmeric and jeshtamadha (yashimadhu) powder relieves cough to a great extent. Mix all of these and make small pellets which you can pop into your mouth occasionally.


For dry cough, warm up a spoonful of cooking oil, add a pinch of salt and asafoetida to it and rink this preparation. Drink a cup of hot water after it. Take this at night before going to bed.

That depends on what type of cough you are suffering from.
In general I prefer Adulsa, but I once had persistent pain in the throat while swallowing and no syrup helped. Then my ENT prescribed Prospan and it just dissappeared in a few days.
But Effectiveness of cough syrups will depend on the cause and the type of cough you have. I will not get into the details of WHY because I might end up giving you a lecture in Pharmacy!! :)

You can use Zinda Tilismath in water or else pour some drops of Zinda Tilismath in one table spoon of sugar and take it directly. It will ease cough. In case of syrup you can take benadryl, Patanjali Swasari Prahari or use Rotahalor capsules.

Cough is not the same in every case, you want either to dilute it or take it out. An expectorant or to dilute.

I use Benadryl which is good and effcetive when you have severe cough...One can also drink a spoonful of ginger juice mixed with honey which is equally good and soothing..
