Heart Breaking Climax Scenes

Most recently I watched Marathi film - Sairat with English subtitles. I watched it because of the good reviews and record breaking collections. But its unexpected climax is heartbreaking, and definitely going to stay in my mind for a short period. The muted climax scene is definitely one of the finest scenes ever shot in Indian cinema. Actually I thought, there was some problem with my you tube video. Climax scenes of Anand, Hamal hassan starrer Moonam Pirai/Sadma and Malayalam movies - Thulabharam & Akash Doot are a few more. Can you give a few more, belonging to any language of your choice?

I would like to add Muquadar Ka Sikander, Deewar and Sholay too. In teens, death scene of Amitabh in Sholay left an impression on me. Same is the case of Muquadar Ka Sikander with an anti-climax. Dil Ek mandir, Sangham and  Devdas (Dilip Kumar).

In the recent times, Baazigar, Kal Ho Na Ho, Fanaah, Gangster, Tere Naam, Kai Po Che, Rang De Basanti, Aashique 2, Jannat 1 and 2 etc. I was really touched with the ending of Jannat 2, I have not watched a movie with such an unhappy ending.

I forgot to add one of the best love stories ever made in Malayalam cinema. It's 'Ennu Ninte Moideen' - Yours Moideen released in 2015. The movie is a real love story of a Muslim boy and a Hindu girl, and they wait for long years till they grew old. He dies in a boat accident in his 40s in 1980s and Kanchana Mala is still living in Mukkam, now age 70+ unmarried.

Yes. I still remember the climax scenes from the Movies made by our famous director, K, Vishwanadh. And almost all his  Climax scenes make every body in the Cinema Hall wipe his or her Tears. Of all the Movies, made by him, the Movie Shankarabharanam;s climax scene left a deep impression me.

Sandhya Rani Yes Yes I remember Sagara Sangamam, dubbed to Malayalam and Tamil starring Kamal Hassan and Jaya Prada. It's climax scene is so unpleasant. I watched Shankarabharam (Tamil or Malayalam) as a child, I can't remember any scene of the movie, except the classic songs - Sandhya Rani - 7 years ago

For me two movies ve left a very deep impression in my mind. One is the Sadma scene in which Kamal Hassan try to act in a crazy way to make Sridevi recollect the past. She not remembering the time she had spent with Kamal Hassan remarks something like'poor fellow. Must be crazy'. That was very heart breaking. Another scene was the climax of the movie' ahista ahista'.

Sandhya Rani kamal hassan received his first National award for this performance. Though the Hindi version was a flop when the movie got released, it got a cult status later - Sandhya Rani - 7 years ago

The climax scene from the movie Life is Beautiful is the most heartrending one in my opinion. The movie is the story of a young Jew father who is imprisoned with his little son in a concentration camp by the Nazis. He tries hard to make it all appear like an act for his son to protect him for the harsh realities of life before them. He tries to preserve his son's innocence and sensitivity right until the end when the son is united with his mother but the father dies. It is the best and the most touching climax. Another one I can think of is the climax of the movie HMS Ulysses based on the Alistair Maclean novel of the same name!

usha manohar I too have seen Life is beautiful which was very touching. There was another film on the same theme of Holocaust named The boy in the striped Pajamas which also had a very touching climax - usha manohar - 7 years ago
Sandhya Rani There is one Malayalam film with same title released in 2000, which told the relationship between a married couple. But the movie was a flop. Have you watched Sairat? I really loved the heroine and her natural looks, entirely different from glamorous heroines of today. - Sandhya Rani - 7 years ago
Kalyani Nandurkar Yes, I have heard about the movie, but not seen it so far. - Kalyani Nandurkar - 7 years ago
Kalyani Nandurkar I have seen only some parts of Sairat, the girl is good but didn't like the movie so left it midway. The story, acting etc. must be good, but lately, the trend in Marathi film industry has been to project and glorify teenage love and I am afraid that is an unhealthy and negative trend so I don't watch or promote about such kind of movies. - Kalyani Nandurkar - 7 years ago

I liked the end of Sadma and the other movie that had a sad climax with a profound message was shor starring Manoj Kumar and Jaya Bhaduri. I even liked climax of Koshish starring Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bhaduri. Though it was a positive emotional climax

Heart Breaking climaxes of films. I am  basically one of those who forgets parts of movies after watching a movie! Paricularly i remember the climax of movies 'hachiko' and 'marley and me'. I am not much a fan of human-human attachment though...

Sandhya Rani actually I hate to watch movies with anti-climax. I several times thought to watch sarbjit online. But knowing it has a sad end,I hesitate always - Sandhya Rani - 7 years ago
Kalyani Nandurkar Hachiko and Marley and Me are good films. Actually, if we think of it there are so many films that are touching and have beautiful but heartrendng scenes. It is really difficult to pick the best of them. - Kalyani Nandurkar - 7 years ago

Mughal E Azam had a very touching climax , also Qayamat se Qayamat tak , which was extremely tragic . Other than that Mooulin Rouge was another film that had a very sad climax.

Sandhya Rani Several adaptions of Shakespeare works have been done in Indian cinema. Kaliyattam (Malayalam) and Omkara are based on Othello. Performance of Suresh Gopi as a lead actor gave him National award for best actor. Its climax is really hurting (As we know about its climax earlier, predicted climax breaks the suspense). I am yet to watch Omkara. Haider (from Hamlet) had a different climax. I would like to add one movie to the list - Muquadar Ka Sikander. For me, it's the finest of Amitabh's performance as an actor in 1970s - Sandhya Rani - 7 years ago
Sandhya Rani Ishaqzaade and Ramleela were inspired from Romeo & Juliet. I didn't like Ram Leela, but the desi version of Ishaqzaade is a must-watch with a heart touching climax - Sandhya Rani - 7 years ago
usha manohar I have not seen any of the films you have mentioned, however will look out for them. I know that some excellent films are made in Malayalam, have seen a few as well - usha manohar - 7 years ago

Kal ho na ho is also having a heart breaking climax with the hero dying and meeting his lover on his deathbed. He unites his love with another person who loves her very much so that she will live happily.

Also Baghbhan also has a heart breaking climax where Amitabh bachchan the father of 4 kids refuse to consider them as their kids as they dont treat their parents properly and divide their mother and father.
