It’s not at all an easy task to shift kids from their parents’ room to a new room. According to experts, it should be done before he reaches 7 years old. Kids may not be willing to sleep alone in a separate room away from parents. But with certain simple tricks this task can be performed in an easy way.

Design room according to age and tastes of the kid

kidsroom5

Try to include his favourite things, toys and colours while you design a room for him. It’s true children’s tastes are like colours of seasons – can change any time. So, room should be designed so that alternations can be done easily. You should have a clear idea of how that room will be used by the kid in future and make specifications according to it. Curtains, bed sheets, pillow covers, pillows, cushion, soft toys etc can be changed occasionally to give a freshness and ‘new look’ often.

Pink for girls and blue for boys

Girls and boys – they have different tastes and favourite colours. So, while setting rooms for kids keep this factor in mind. Boys are normally adventurous and hence they love to see Spiderman, He-man, Super man etc in their rooms. Also, pictures of motor races and adventurous games. So, you can choose pillows, blankets and curtains with their designs. You can even use such wall papers of super heroes in boys’ room. Beds like deck and bunk bed to climb, car bed, ball chair etc are boys’ favourites. Blue is the colour of boys and pink, that of girls. Green and yellow shades are filled with energy and hence best for kids’ room. But dark colours like red and black can adversely influence a kid’s mind and hence should be avoided. Barbie and mermaid are girls’ favourites and hence they can be made companions while choosing their curtains, pillow covers, blankets and wall papers.

Their room accessories and fittings

Switches and shelves of kids’ room should be reachable within kids’ fingers. Power points of switches should be closed. Never place crystals, glass or sharp edged toys in your kid’s room. Also never place computer or TV in their rooms.

While buying expensive furniture for your kids’ bed room, just have a second thought if they will be useful in future also. Never use expensive woods like teak for making kid furniture. Even if you are doing so, make its fittings so that they can be re-used for any other furniture in the future.
Use anti-skid tiles for your kid’s room. Also, they should be easy washable and free of stains. Since kids do a lot of mischief in their room, flooring should be durable. From toys to books – everything could be placed in your kid’s room. While designing, keep in mind this fact as well. Make cupboards in such a way that they can be made larger in future.

Make space for black board to study and draw pictures, notice board to pin pictures, stories and useful notes and area to display their hobbies. Photos of kids can be placed in the room or walls – from an infant to day today. They can be made as wall papers as well, in enlarged format. You can also frame nursery rhymes, tour photos, stories etc.

Now stickers of cartoon pictures are available everywhere. Choose some according to your kid’s likes. Now fluorescent stickers of solar system are also available, which glow when light is switched off. Small kids love them a lot. You can stick some in the ceiling, just above the bed. As such stickers give a light glow inside the room for a while when light is switched off suddenly, it is really a nice idea to include in kid’s bed room as they always fear sudden darkness.
