Now-a-days it is quite important to keep your data safe so that you can retrieve it later if required. There are many ways by which you can keep your data safe by external storage devices like pen drives, blank Cd's and DVDs. But today I am going to write about how you can keep your data safe online regularly without those external devices. Your external devices might fail or get corrupted or might get damage by fire or water or may be lost someday (you never know) but if you backup your data online you don't have to worry about all these things.
Now, I am going to tell you what an online data backup is? An online data backup is also known as a remote data backup and you can back up your files and folders or even the contents of your entire hard drive with an Internet connection. Here the entire data is managed by the software application provided by the company you choose. Some sites where these online data backup service is provided free are Dropbox (2GB free), OpenDrive (5GB free) and Mozyhome (http://mozy.com). With Mozyhome you will just need to sign up and you will instantly get 2GB free online storage but the unlimited mozyhome subscription costs you around Rs.202 per month and it backs up your data automatically and securely. Same types of services are provided by Carbonite (www.carbonite.com) and SOS Online backup (www.sosonlinebackup.com). Only the disadvantage is that it can be a bit slow even with the broadband connections.
Further, some online backup servies like Bullguard Backup (www.bullgurard.com) sets a limit on the amount of data you backup for it only offers you 10 GB of online storage. But if you go for subscription it will charge you around 25 dollars per year.
So now the decision is yours and all you have to do is to think about what is your requirement. If your data that you want to back up in not a huge one you can go for the free services provided by the sites mentioned above and I think it is best suited for most of our home users like me who does not have that much data to backup but if you have a huge chunk of data which you need to back up securely and remotely then obviously you need to go with the subscriptions. The subscription way of backing up most suites for small and medium types of firms who have huge data base to back up remotely and securely. Now the decision is yours.
