Well, the first ever wireless communication systems used was smoke signals, torch signalling and flashing mirrors to convey messages.Observation stations were built on hilltops to relay messages over long distances.Logically this is a very strong and basic method and some of its types are even followed in our day to day life, like just given a signal to our friends with different source.
- In 1897, Marconi demonstrated radio ability to provide continuous contact with ships. This is a very key discovery, which later led to the discovery of many devices.
- In 1934,US municipal police radio system had adopted AM based mobile communication.Over 5000 radios were installed in mobiles.
- In 1938, the Telegraph network was invented by Samuel Morse .
- In 1946,the first public mobile telephone service was introduced in 25 American cities.Each system used a single high power transmitter to cover a large area.
- FM push to talk system was used with 120 Khz of RF bandwidth in half duplex. In 1950's Federal Communication Commission(FCC) doubled the number of channels by cutting the bandwidth into half (60 Khz).In 1960's bandwidth was cut to 30 Khz.
- During 1950-60's AT and T Bell Lab and other telecommunication companies developed the theory of cellular radio telephony.
- In 1983,FCC allocated 666 duplex channels for US Advanced Mobile Phone System(AMPS).
- In 1989, FCC added 166 duplex channels(10 MHz).
- In 1990 , Global System for Mobile(GSM) was first developed.In 1991, the first US Digital Cellular(USDC) was installed.
