Electronic mail (e-mail) : Using e-mail a user can send text, pictures, sounds, programs or even movies to even movies to any other person on the Internet.

News group : The messages sent to a newsgroup are simply posted or the electronic notice board. Anyone can see these messages. You can place your own news items or can access the news items placed by others.

Chatting and Conferencing : Using Internet Relay Chat (IRC) you can speak to other users around the world virtually in real time as though you were in the same room.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) : Using FTP a user can copy computer files from a remote computer to his computer. FTP consists of a standard set of commands for file downloading and uploading.

Gopher : This provides a way to index and organize all kinds of different collections and textual data, as well as other kinds of documents.

World Wide Web (WWW) : The World Wide Web is described as a wide-area hypermedia information retrieval initiative aiming to give universal access to a large universe of documents. In WWW computer system the information that is to be offered is stored on a computer called 'Web Server' in the form of web pages. The language called Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) is used for creating the web pages. e.g. Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer, Mosaic etc.

A web page can be only a block of text, but it may include graphics, sound clips and full motion video also. Anything on the web page can be linked to another page of information. A single HTML document can be linked to WWW pages that exist on other computer systems anywhere in the world.
