Mohandas karamchand Gandhi is called the father of the nation. He guided Indians to fight for their freedom from the British government. He stressed the need for non- violent freedom struggle and also preached the importance of Satyagraha. He is fondly remembered as Bapu.

Other important cities in India

Jaipur is the capital of princely state of Rajasthan. Maharaja Swami Jaisingh founded Jaipur. All government office is located in Jaipur. The buildings in the main city are made of pink sand stone that is why it is know as the pink city. Handicrafts, jeweler, precious gems, metal work, tie and tie are some of the important industries of Jaipur.

Places of tourist interest are Amar fort, city place, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar and Ram Bag palace. Elephant’s festival is famous with foreign tourists. Johri Bazar in the old city is the main shopping center of Jaipur.

Chandigrah is a union territory. It is also the capital of Punjab and Haryana both. One of the most modern and well-planned cities of India, Chandigrah is divided into sectors. A man named Nek Chand created the famous rock garden out of waste material. There are artificial colorful trees, houses, people, animals and lots of other things in this garden. Asia’s largest rose garden is situated in Chandigrah.

Patna is an ancient city. It is the capital city of Bihar. All government offices are situated here. Patna is famous for Gurdwar Patna Sahib. The oldest church of Bihar named St. Mary’s church is also situated here.

Lucknow is capital city of Uttar Pradesh; Lucknow is situated on the banks of river Gomati. It is famous for its culture. All offices of the state government are situated here. It is also famous for chicken embroidery. Places of tourist interest are the Imam Bara, the Rumi Darwaza, the residency, the Clock tower and Shahid Smarak. Hazratganj and Aminbad are famous shopping centers.

Hyderabad is capital city of Andhra Pradesh consists of twin cities of Hyderabad and Sucenderabad.

Hyderabad is famous for its Husain Sagar lake, Charminar, Salarjung Museum and Birla Mandir.
