Hi friends, through this article I would like to share my knowledge about THE RAMAKRISHNA MISSION, with you.

RAMAKRISHNA PARAMAHANSA, after whom the Mission was named, was a poor priest in a temple at DAKSHINESWAR near Kolkata. He had no formal education but led an intense spiritual life. He had deep faith in the inherent truth of all religions. He explained his views admirably in simple parables. Unlike the other reformers, Ramakrishna Paramahansa believed in the worship of images as a symbol of God, but condemned the rituals.
His famous disciple, Narendra Dutta became famous as Swami Vivekananda(1863-1902). He carried his messages all over India. His eloquence and personality gathered around him both princes and peasants. His motto was to worship God through the service of the poor and the downtrodden. He attended the Parliament of Religions in 1893 at Chicago in the U.S.A. His speeches at Chicago and other places in the United States and the United Kingdom brought him fame and friends. Ramakrishna Mission was established in 1897 by Swami Vivekananda at Kolkata. It has branches all over India and even in the U.S.A.
The Mission has opened many schools, technical institutes, orphanages and dispensaries and renders service to the people in time of distress caused by famine, flood or other calamities. Vivekananda believed that the present warring world can be saved by spiritual teachings which India alone can impart but India must enjoy the respect of other nations by raising her status.
