Creating Solid Chocolate Effect to Text:

text_solid

  • Open a new document of size, width-500px and height – 500px and set the background as Black color.
  • Create a new layer and fill it with background Black color. Let’s fill this layer with gradient. You can use the ordinary gradient option but to get the precise effect let us use the Blending options > Gradient Overlay available in, Layer menu > Layer style > Blending options or right click the layer and select Blend options. Set the following Gradient Overlay settings:
  • Gradient Overlay settings: Set the Blend mode – Normal with opacity as 100% and style used as ‘Diamond’ with angle-90% and scaled to 102%. Select the inverse option also as per necessary. The Gradient is custom made. Select a bicolor gradient divided equally for two colors. Set one color as   Black and the other color as # edb3b3. Leave the mode of this layer to –Normal. Now create another layer and fill it with Background color as Black. You are not going to set any effects to this layer, but simply going to set the Blend mode to- Soft Light. This setting can be made in the Layer box or the Blending option > Blending.
  • The Next step is to type a text (in this example,’ T’) with Font set to - ‘Times New Roman’ and Style set to-Regular with Size increased to as large as - 370pt and sharp effect is selected as style. The color used for the Text is Color- # 95080b (which is a Brown shade). Now duplicate the Text layer to keep it as reference for future just in case you need to make any changes later.
  • Now, Rasterize the Duplicate layer by right click the duplicate Text layer and select the option- Rasterize Type. Once the layer is rasterized, you can use the Transform tool. Transform tool can be used even for ordinary text but options such as Perspective, Skew, Distort etc will not be functional. Now use the Transform tool or click, CTRL + T and right click and select Perspective option. Click on the Top right corner anchor point and drag towards the right side so that the text is dragged towards the right. Once dragged, the Text shape also changes and becomes short. Do not worry about it now, we shall change it later. Once transformed, create TWO more copies of this transformed layer by using CTRL + J. Once duplicated, you should have total of THREE layers with Text. Now use the Move tool to move them Front and Back only and not Up and Down. Once arranged in the order, you should have something like this
  • chocoT1
  • Now to make the three layers combined, to give the solid look, Join the edges and fill color so that the difference between three layers is not visible. To do this, use the Polygonal lasso tool and draw around the edges. Once the selection is made, fill the area with same color as the text that is Brown color using ALT + Backspace option. Repeat this to hide all corners that are the bottom and the right and left side of the alphabet T. Note that these selections filled should be made on the front Text layer. Now we shall add effects to three layers with Text individually.

A._) Effects for the Front layer with text:

The Blend mode for this layer is Normal. Blending options > Bevel and Emboss is used for this with contour and Texture options .Basic settings are applied.(a.) Bevel and Emboss: The bevel used is= Inner Bevel and size is= 5px with Depth= 100% and direction set to-UP and soften level is 0px.Llinear Gloss contour and Highlight color is white and mode is > Screen and shadow color is black and mode is > multiply and both set at 75%. The bevel is placed at an angle of 120 degree.(b.) Contour settings: Contour used is the basic linear type and range is set to 50 %. (c.) The next important step is the Texture setting: It is the cause for the chocolate effect. Use the default texture called > Bubbles and scale it to 100% and the Depth is also set at 100%.

B._) Effects for the Second layer with Text behind the Front text:

The blend mode for this layer is Normal. (a.) The same Bevel options as above are used, that is the bevel used is= Inner Bevel and BUT size is= 21px with Depth= 1000% and direction set to-UP and soften level is 0px.Llinear Gloss contour and Highlight color is white and mode is > Screen and shadow color is black and mode is > multiply and both set at 75%. The bevel is placed at an angle of 120 degree. The contour option need not be selected. (b.) The important factor is the Texture: The texture used is > Woven. This gives the second chocolate layer effect. Set the scale to 100% and Depth as –(minus)18%.

C._) Effects for the third layer with text positioned at the back:

The blend mode for this layer is Normal. Same settings for Bevel and Emboss as above are used. Again, the contour option need not be selected. The texture used is the same > Woven scaled to 100% with Depth set as > -(minus)127% AND select the INVERT option for a real chocolate layer. Only then it would look different like different chocolate layers. Once everything is done, use the Transform Tool and Stretch upwards to make the text Long. Use transform tool by selecting all the layers that contribute to the chocolate effect. The layers appear as follows:
