GRAMMAR-8 Sentences & Interjections
Definition Of Sentence:
1.A sentence is a group of words that makes a complete sense.
2.A sentence is a complete thought.
3.A sentence always begins with a Capital letter.
Example:
- Mother cooks for us.
This is a complete thought.
it is a sentence.
- cooks for us
It does not make any sense.
It is not a sentence.
Some More Examples:
1.The cat is chasing the mouse.
2.Mother bakes the cake well.
3.She is buying a new dress.
Kinds Of Sentence:
- Assertive sentences
- Interrogative sentences
- Exclamatory sentences
- Imperative sentences
1.Assertive Sentences:
A simple statement can be called an Assertive sentence.
It can be in 2 forms:
(i) Affirmative (or positive) sentences
Affirmative statements are called Affirmative sentences.These are positive statements without Negative meaning.
Example:
1.Babu takes his meals at regular hours.
2.The child is sleeping beside its mother
(ii) Negative sentences
Negative statements are called Negative sentences.The statements in negative form. They give negative meaning.
Examples:
1.Ram does not play with us since he is senior to us in age
2.The child is sleeping beside its mother.
2.Interrogative sentences:
The sentences that are used to ask questions are called Interrogative sentences.
End with a sign - ?
Example:
- Have you done your work ?
- Have you ever seen the Tajmahal ?
3.Exclamatory Sentences:
The sentence which express some strong feeling or emotion such as sorrow, joy, surprise, wonder.
THE SIGN IS !
Example:
1.What a beautiful flower!
2.How beautiful the rainbow is!
4.Imperative Sentences:
Sentence which express order, command, request,advise or suggestion.
SENTENCES BEGIN WITH VERB
Example:
1.Sit down quietly (Order)
2.March forward (Command)
3.Kindly help me (Request)
4.Work hard (Advice)
5.Let us have a walk (Suggestion)
Interjections:
- An interjection is a word which expresses a Sudden feeling or Emotion
- Interjections are simply the recording of sound without any relationship to the other words in a sentence grammatically.
1.What! The house caught fire.
2.Alas! The soldier is dead.
3.Bravo! Run fast.
4.Ah! Here comes the actor at last.
5.Hurrah! We have won the match.
6.Hush! Even walls have ears.
7.Oh! What a pretty dress it is.
8.Hello! How do you do.
The above are called Interjections.
Ha! Expresses surprise or suspicion
Alas! Expresses sorrow
Bravo! Expresses applause
Ah! Expresses regret
Hurrah! Expresses joy
Hush! Expresses attention
Oh! Expresses surprise or fear
Hello! Expresses attention
Ha!ha! Express Laughter
Welldone! Expresses approval
Hi! Call attention
