My internship in an IT company
Hi friends. I am doing my fourth year M.Sc in information technology and it is an integrated course. It offers me to do an internship in the 7th semester in any IT company. The interview for selection will begin in the 6th semester. Many company flood in with offers for internship but the interview procedure was so tedious. I attended two companies abut got rejected in both and then the third company selected me. Internship is a procedure where the student will stay in the company for the designated period of time and will do some project and works that are assigned to learn the working of the industry. At the end of the semester the student will be asked to present the project which he/ she worked on.
This concept is quiet good because it gives the student a working experience prior to completing his/her degree so that the decision can be made before hand. Some people will prefer continuing with the job, some will prefer not. Each one will have their personal decision. In my personal experience I got selected for a good company in my home town itself. There were also companies from other states but it was good that I got selected in my home town itself and the drawback was that the traveling time is more from my home to the company. The job timings are morning 8 to evening 5. I start to home at evening 6'oclock and reach home by 9'oclock at night. The company provided us cab for traveling from home to office and office to home. The cab is very much comfortable to all of us.
When I joined this company I was bit scary, but I managed to adjust with the enveronment. There were 3 more friends from my college, so they became good friends. There were so many teams in that company. I was placed in the Research and development team. I was happy that I was in that team. My manager was so kind to us that he always comes all the way from his cabin to ask how we felt and how was the travel and all. Ours is a small team compared to other teams. its size is 20 members. All of them were so caring, we all have lunch together. They helped me in learning all the basic procedures and necessary things. As it is a internship so there is no work pressure at all. Leave taking process is very easy, we just need to inform to the manner before day.
Each one of us were assigned a personal head and were under separate topics. There were topics like image processing, speech, simulation. I was under simulation topic. I started the internship by learning about the basic simulation techniques and the procedures then collected so many document and accumulated them to get a clear idea. I was asked to attend frequent meetings under the director where he would explain what I had to do specifically and also what all I must learn. I was having a good experience but that I felt the stay at office to be very long. It was nearly 15 hours out of my home. This made me so tired and frustrated but I was able to recover because of my friends. They gave me a very good company and gave me what all I needed.
Initially I felt that I was alone for more days. But later I made friendship with other people They were very friendly and jovial that they shared all my pains. I was also announced to receive a stipend of Rs.1000 per month. But the worst sorrow I got just 5000 in my first month because of all the tax and all that. Initially I felt it irritating but later forgot it. This money helped me for my purchases. I use the first month salary for my parents and sister to get some things for my home.
Internship helped me learn where I stand in my life. I came to know that I was lagging back in technology and learning. I learned some good techniques which people there use to get well known with things around. I found that people were always discussing about their job, their new courses. They even actively involved in share market and all that. They were earning money very easily. I thought IT industry will make people stressful and mad. But when I was into it I got the real experience that it depends upon the person and how we take it. When we take things easy and happy life will be easy and cool.
They arranged for treats then and there. They went for outings and all that was making me enjoy. Every place has to something to teach and we had to change the way we live then and there. Why I told all this is that nowadays job is the need of the hour. But so many people are confused which field to choose and where to live. When we have a short term experience like this we can get to know how the industry operates and the basic techniques so that we can improvise ourselves. To match that industry or we can choose some other field. Some times people will decide to make some higher studies.
Some important and life changing decisions can be made in a very short span of time. Not that all the courses and offered with such internship semesters. It depends upon the course and the college. But when we wanted to get some good experience we can search for some summer opportunities in companies which are becoming more prevalent nowadays. But be in caution get all the details about the company and get into it. Some times we might be asked to pay some amount. Do not get into a false and bad company without proper knowledge.
Such internships are offered in wide variety of companies. It is in out hands to make necessary effort and gather regular information so that we can design our self a good future.
