What is general knowledge?

General knowledge refers to having sound information on the following fields: history, current affairs, science and technology, computer science, sports any other interested field also. This cannot be acquired so easily. It depends widely on the interest of the student and the surroundings. The level of general knowledge is independent of age and qualification. Only the interest of the person matters the most. Even a common man can have more general knowledge. Following are some easy ways to get more general knowledge easily:

  • Books,
  • Newspapers,
  • Television,
  • Radio.

Books and News Papers

Books are a greater source of history. One way to learn history in a easier way is to have yearbooks every year. Books like manorama year book will give entire sweep of what all happened the previous year. Newspapers are where we can gain the current affairs knowledge. English papers can improve the English knowledge also. They but newspaper reading must be a regular practice to get better results. If we cannot afford to get such costly books we can go to some waste paper marts and see if there are any such books available so that we can get it at low cost.

Media

Media includes Television and radio. Initially radio was the prominent media, then TV became popular but now radio is gaining popularity again. I would suggest listening to radio news will give a good and sound general knowledge when listened regularly. That is again cheap and very easily accessible. The number of TV news channels is increasing day by day. Bur we had to make a wise choice of which channel to watch to get genuine news at less time. Only hearing the news s not enough we had to make an analysis on a regular basis so that we can improve the analytical knowledge. Every radio channel will dedicate one hour in the morning and in the evening to broadcast news. We must get to know the timings and listen to it without fail. So that we can get the crisp news easily. Also there are various programs and interviews of people in TV and radio which will help gain knowledge in the field of study. One main point is that we must have a regular practice of reading newspapers to see what al programs are telecasted and plan out work according to that and remember the timings.

Special Tips

  • Just making a good start with the above habits is not enough, only continuous effort can help to a greater extend.
  • Parents must improve all these practices from the childhood for their children. This will help them greatly in their future.
