Speech is a great blessing of God. Everyone has the gist of speech. A man derives various advantages of speech. A man derives various advantages by keeping silent. The virtue of speaking well, rightly and effectively also includes the capacity to stay silent, when situation demands so. If each one of us beings to speak at the same time, nothing will be understandable. Speaking is a physical exercise. And like any physical exercise, it uses energy. But by talking less, we can save energy which can be used for any other useful purposes. There are the times when silence become the most potential way of communication and it's more effective than words.

Talking is silver but Silence is Gold, It is a great idiom used by the most nations. Silence is the quality of a good speaker. It is a great quality to be a good listner. A man who speaks too much is not liked much. Such a man creates many difficulties and exposes himself. A man who knows nothing may be able to deceive people for a little while. But if he goes on talking, the listner soon comes to know that his knowledge is shallow. Then he becomes a laughing stock. We humans have tendancy to talk more and to listen less, the main cause is that we have forgotten the art of waiting and allowing ourselves to listen other viewpoints.

Someone has rightly said that it is better to remain silent and be thoughtful than to speak. If a man remains silent, he is considered a deep man. A majority of quarrels can be avoided if we can only control one speech, Silence is a part of our spiritual discipline. Silence needs a special kind of power and authority of mind, to say nothing is more difficult than expressing anger, happiness, love with words. Our silence hides most of our weakness and shortcomings. It gives us an opportunity to listen to others. We can benefit from other's talk and experience. Mahatma Gandhi knew its importance and observed one "Silence Day' in a week. Speech is, no doubt, Silver but Silence, they say, is Gold.
