One out of ten person suffers from depression at one or more times in our lives as studied by NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Healing and Neuroscience) Bangaluru. Most of the cases of depression in India are mild to moderate and related to stress in life. Use of anti-depressent drugs has increased over the last few years. But most of the times these drugs act as placebos as these drugs act symptomatically and do not remove the root cause of condition. Alternatively by altering our day to day life we can fight depression alongwith medicine. Here are few of the suggestions:-

Be Mobile

If we keep ourselves busy with activities i.e. duty hours, in our kitchen, home so that we feel satisified. This feel-good factor is very important for our healthy life.

Exercise/Games

It is well known fact that exercise improves our mood. By exercise endorphins are released which make us happy and boost our self-esteem. Yoga, Gyms, Swimming Pools, Play Grounds are places where we must go. Not only the physical exertion but sense of game-spirit removes our negative thoughts.

Watch & Attach to Games

 Watching football or cricket match (as you like) attaches you to the players. This sense of belonging is goof for health. Even if your team loses it is good for your mental well-being.

Pets

Pass good time with pets. Dog is a good friend of man. Having aquarium at home makes environment lively.

Eat Properly

Stress and improper eating are inter-related so by controlling eating habits one can control the stress.

Sing Loudly

Singing loudly can help you a lot. by this we throw out our negative energies. (But be careful not to disturb others).

Reading Good Books

A person who considers book as a friend is never lonely. A good book i.e. a good friend always shows you a right path.

Be Social & Help Others

Having people around you makes you more responsible. And you get great satisfaction in helping the people who are in need.

Attend Satsang

Just by attending religious gatherings and listening to bhajans etc. you can keep yourself away from negativity.

So be positive and let the sense of optimism drag you away from depression.
