Time management techniques for students
The perception of all parents when their child fails in an exam is that s/he was not studying at all. And wasting time with friends, computer, mobile or movies. But they never analyze the fact why their kid was doing like this? Many parents feel that their duty is only to provide good school, tutor, books and pocket money to their children. And the parents never feel the necessity to think how their kid is using those resources? Everything should be used within a limit. If it exceeds then side effects will occur. Similarly, whenever you are giving everything to a child. Just observe how much time s/he is spending on them. There are very simple techniques that can be taught to a child to utilize the time properly and achieve success in career.
When we start studying we never plan previously how much time I have to give, which topics I have to cover and the importance of each topic. As a result we can not concentrate for more than 20-30 minutes. It happens because human brain always wants relax. So, during study we have to keep our brain active for long time. For this you have to plan previously. And never spend more than three minutes for planning.
Suppose you want to read something in this evening from 6 to 9 o’clock. Before you start reading just note down in your diary the following data:
Time duration: 6 to 9 pm
Topics to be covered: English, math, physics
English – 1 hr
Math - 1.5 hr
Physics - .5 hr
(You can change the sequence and timing as you like)
After you complete reading the first subject, make a mark in this schedule and start reading the second one.
Initially you may not complete all the subjects in your plan. But practice it for 2 to 3 days and gradually you can concentrate well in studies. This explains a daily schedule planning. Similarly, you can easily plan for 3 days, 7 days, 30 days or for whole year. But along with your long term schedule always make a daily schedule for studies. Because the chance of success is more if you utilize the current time purposefully.
Parents have a lot of influence on their child. They can easily convince the child to implement a daily schedule like the above. It will take time but the result is excellent. Encourage the child when s/he successfully completes a daily schedule and give some small gifts !!
