A Chinese Proverb says “Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere”. Leaning in itself is a very cherishing experience. 12With the hectic schedule that each one of us follows every day, it is very much necessary to keep pace with your learning curve. The initiative to learn something is itself very appreciative, however if you speed up the learning at a faster pace, it would be a much fulfilling journey.

Not speaking much, I would like to point out some useful tips which I hope will surely help you in your learning curve in a speedy way:

Set up an Environment, Avoid distraction:

To concentrate, it is very much necessary that you set up an environment in a peaceful place. No matter if you are learning a new programming language or a new form of music, something new requires all your attention. For this, you should avoid distraction of any kind. Watching TV or listening to music while solving a mathematical problem may appear that you are multitasking but it in a way hampers your efficiency. Neither were you able to watch TV nor you solved the problem with all your effort. Something in between always bothered you. Stop following such an habit, it will affect your efficiency in the long run.

Do one thing at a time:

We have a notion that multitasking saves much of our time. But believe me, with the habit of multitasking you screw yourself up. Your mind is so engaged with so many tasks at one time that you end up making mistakes on one or two of them. Instead, do one task at a time. When you are doing some serious work, do it with all the concentration and try to finish it as fast as possible. When you are listening to music, just enjoy the music and relax. In this way, you will de-stress yourself and your mind will not be pre-occupied all the time.

Try to visualize your learning:

Suppose you have a whole 10 pages of text to go through. Quite a boring job! But you can make it easier by jotting down the main points and them making a diagram in the form of flowchart, table, etc. Have you observed that we are able to absorb an idea much easier if it is illustrated by means of a diagram and image than pure text. The point is, image or diagrams are much appealing and we tend to remember it for a longer period of time. If you are able to set up a picture of whatever you have read, it implies that you have extracted the maximum of whatever you have read.

Extract the Main Idea of the Reading:

Take the above example that, you have to read the 10 pages text. Now before you deeply get engrossed into it, take a quick reading of all the pages and then try to list the main points of your reading. Put those points in a piece of paper. So, now you will have a fair idea of what those pages is all about. This time, go through the text, pages by pages, you will observe that you understanding of the content has improved this time.

Do not set you Study Time for too long and take Frequent Breaks:

This is one of the vital points. We always tend to think that stretching ourselves for a long 5-6 hours will enhance the study schedule. Instead, try to cover a topic for 1 hour or half an hour and then take a break for 5-10 minutes. Relax yourself during the short period and do not think of anything related to the study. Again sit for another 1 hour or so and take a break.  Your brain needs time to relax and settle. Give it the time to breathe and then you try to stuff it with some more content. You will observe that you are performing better if following this pattern.
