The He-Man Wo-Mun Haterz Club

Sometimes, or rather many a times, we underestimate the toddlers. If we believe that only adults can show responsibility, courage or dedication, then we ought to learn some lessons from the 1994 movie Little Rascals. In three scenes, the kids in the movie show all these traits with a dash of innocence. The fire at their clubhouse after Alfalfa’s disastrous date with Darla, Alfalfa and Spanky making up to each other after a fight and the club’s effort to rebuild a proves that the little rascals can behave much beyond than their age.
Of all the firefighting scenes that I have ever seen in movies, the scene in Little Rascals is the cutest and most humorous. Never in my wildest dreams had I imagined that a bunch of eight year olds could don yellow fireman suits and tackle a fire using water hoses with much more power than they could handle. The whole firefighting scene is potent enough to make anyone roll on the floor with laughter, yet it shows how much responsibility the little rascals can shoulder.
It is believed that apologizing to a friend you’ve hurt takes a lot of courage. The part of the movie where Alfalfa and Spanky apologize to each other after fighting in the fair is indeed very touching. They call each other all sorts of names when Alfalfa finds out that Spanky was responsible for ruining Alfalfa’s date with Darla and when Alfalfa loses the derby car. The way the two boys miss each other and feel pangs of guilt and eventually apologize to each other is a perfect display of courage that even adults do not possess.
People usually say that kids are very insincere as it is a common notion that they run away from homework. But the amount of dedication the little rascals show to build a new go-kart after their previous one is stolen contradicts this notion. The hyper-active kids start building a new derby car from scratch again, using shopping trolleys, washing machine motors, garbage cans and whatever junk they are able to salvage. With a lot of combined effort, the kids make a winning machine.
The whole movie portrays that the Little Rascals as a bunch of kids who can take over the city if given the chance. Their hate for women (or rather girls), love for junk and a strong affinity for mischief will bring tears of laughter to anybody’s eyes. Also, the amount of courage, dedication, innocence and responsibility these kids show can substantiate the famous quote that “The child is the father of Man”.
