To give taste to our tongue, how much items do we find around – Pizza, noodles, burger, chocolates, pastries etc. When do we eat? Are we ready to do any compromises with its taste, quantity or time of consumption? Result, tea without sugar or food without salt before reaching thirties! It occurred only due to the uncontrolled intake of food in the childhood, teens and early 20s. As time pass by, young people are more prone to such problems. Earlier health problems belong to people who have celebrated their 60th birthday. Gradually, that time lag has decreased considerably and has now reached teens. Can we avoid such a situation? Yes, it’s possible if we are ready to keep a discipline in food intake.

Let us start our day with a glass of plain water

Drink a glass of plain water as soon as you wake up. It acts as a tonic to provide freshness for the whole day. You can use boiled-cooled water as well. You sleep the whole night beneath fan or AC that results in loses of water content of our body. A glass of plain water helps you a lot. It also helps in starting your metabolic activities earlier thus reducing your weight by burning some extra fat. Drink at least 8 glasses water everyday.

Are you neglecting your breakfast?

If you are skipping your breakfast, you are killing your health as well. Breakfast is the most important food of a day that keeps you fit and fresh the whole day. Otherwise, in the inefficient supply of energy to brain cells, you feel tired, sleepy and lack of concentration. Take breakfast within 2 hours you wake up, for a healthy body and energetic mind.

Quantity is important

Good food in a controlled way – keep it as a mantra to keep you fit and healthy. Eating a few nuts, assuming they are calorie rich or eating stomach-full oats or corn flakes thinking they are calorie less – both these practices are unhealthy. One should eat food suiting age and his job profile. A person who sits full day in office or before computer needs only less-calorie food while a mansion worker needs extra calorie food to work heavily. It’s best to provide fruits or juices in small intervals to keep you fit.

Is it possible to know food is healthy?

Rice is more benefited to the body if used as whole grain. It gives almost 15 vital factors including manganese, magnesium, vitamin B, niacin and potassium. Fiber content is more in wheat and oats. Avoid maida while making snacks. Pulses provide energy to brain. Beans, peas, green gram, vegetables, leafy vegetables – include as much as possible in your daily diet. They contain fibers, vitamins and essential minerals a lot. Always prefer less calorie and high fiber food, particularly when you step into your thirties.

Should we avoid non-vegetarian?

Not only vegetables, meat, fish and eggs are essential for our body in controlled quantities. Since birds’ body contains less fat comparing animals, prefer chicken than mutton and beef. But prefer fishes most, particularly small type fishes which carry omega-3 fatty acids and essential vitamins a lot. Choose sardines, mackerels and tuna which can reduce bad cholesterol content in your blood. But avoid fried items as much as possible, as our body is not benefited from fried items.

Dieting is not fasting

Most people misinterpret dieting as fasting, either leave a meal or reducing their food considerably. Dieting means reducing the calorie intake and it can be done by converting a meal to fruits or salads only. But never do it for morning breakfast, instead choose supper or lunch.

Is fish fresh?

Now we get fresh fruits and vegetables in packets. Though they appear fresh, a lot of preservatives may be added. So, we can’t 100% assume that they are fresh. So, dip those items in salt water at least for half an hour to detoxify those pesticides and preservatives before use. You can clean vegetables once again by adding a little vinegar as well.

Know the significance of wheat

Though calorie content of both rice and wheat are almost same, fiber content is more in wheat. So prefer whole grain wheat chappatis for your supper.

Is oil a villain?

If we use oil in moderate level, no need to keep it away from kitchen. Oil is needed for the smooth functioning of our body and to maintain smooth skin. So, keep it in minimum quantities to avoid future health problems. Also, never use only one type oil continuously. Instead use two or three oils, to get their benefits and to keep away from its harmful effects due to continuous use.

Honey – a medicine

It’s tasty and has medicinal values too. You can prefer honey to sugar and can use it in fruit juices as substitute. Nectar when combines with enzymes of bees, add nutritious and medicinal values to honey. Enzyme content is high in Himalayan bees Apis mellifera.

Oil, salt and sugar – the essential spices of our food! Control these three in your diet so that you can live long, fit and strong. Excess use of these three can lead to diabetics, high blood pressure, cholesterol and heart problems for sure.
