Evening Snack recipes:

Evening time is the part of the day when all of us wanted to relax. Evening time is always filled with beverages like tea and coffee. It is the time when school children return back home after study. Most children are overloaded with heavy homework. When they are provided with some interesting and healthy snacks in the evenings, then they will become very active and will be able to concentrate in their work. Thus I would like to share some simple and interesting recipes for mothers who wanted to impress their children with their culinary skills. These recipes might seem like usual recipes but there is some change to make them healthy and interesting. Try to implement the change to make the recipe healthier also.

Atta Samosa:

Samosas are usually made up of Maida flour. This is one the most favorite snack items in India. But Maida is very difficult for digestion. It is not that good for children. So we can make it healthier but preparing it with Atta flour.

Ingredients needed are: Atta flour, oil, onions, carrot, salt, chillies, and also desired vegetables

Method:

  • Add some oil to the pan, add onions.
  •  When onions have turned brown add the vegetables desired. When more vegetables are added then the dish will be healthier.
  • When the vegetables have fried well add desired amount of salt.
  • Then prepare the batter like required for chapathis.
  • Then keep little masala which was prepared before into the chapathi and fold it in the shape of a samosa.
  •  Fry it deeply in oil till brown.
  • Serve it hot.

Idli fry:

Idlis are common dishes in south india. But most children do not like idlis. This recipe is prepared using idlis to make idlis more interesting for children.

Ingredients: idlis, oil, salt and any desired chutney or sauce.

Method:

  • Cut the idlis into small pieces.
  •  Heat the oil in a pan. Fry the idlis in the oil till brown.
  • Then add some coriander leaves and curry leaves. Serve it hot with chutney or sauce.
  • This is a very crispy recipe and will remain so for long. But remember to dry off the oil before serving.

Chapatti noodles:

Chapattis are staple and also healthy food. But sometimes when prepared in excess they tend to remain. After some time they will turn very hard and thus they had to be thrown only. To prevent wastage and also to make an interesting recipe chapatti noodles idea is a good one.

Ingredients: chapattis, vegetables, oil, salt, onions.

Method:

  •  Make the batter out of the Atta.
  • Prepare the chapattis as required.
  • Then cut the chapattis using knife into thin and long pieces.
  • Then heat some in the pan.
  • Add the onions when oil is hot.
  • Fry till brown and add the vegetables required.
  • Fry them and then add the chapatti strips.
  •  Fry them till they get into a consistency and get mixed up.
  • Thus chapathi noodles are ready to serve.

Crispy Poori:

Poori is also favorite dish in south India. Pooris are prepared from Atta flour. But pooris are always soft. When something crispy is made using pooris then children will like them more.

Ingredients: Atta flour, oil, sauce.

Method:

  • Prepare the batter with the Atta.
  • Roll it like for chapatti but make it very thin and long.
  • Then take some lid of any box which is round.
  • Press the lid on the roll of the batter.
  • We will get a small round in that shape.
  • Take this small piece and fry it in hot oil.
  • Serve it with sauce for children.

Bhel poori:

Bhel pooris are famous snacks in all shops. They are very easy to prepare and also very tasty. But when they are prepared at home they will be healthier. Because the vegetables used in the shops might not be cleaned properly.

Ingredients: pori(flattened rice), onions, tomatoes, carrot, coriander, salt, sauce, steamed peanuts.

Method:

  • Add the pori as per the volume required.
  • Then add the grated vegetables.
  • Mix them properly. Then add salt and peanuts.
  • Some people might not prefer adding sauce. It depends on the taste.
  • Then serve it with some beverages.
  • Since it has all the raw vegetables it will be very healthy.

Coconut with jaggery:

Coconut is a favorite snack for all children. But it has some difficulty in chewing. When added with jaggery it forms and very sweet dish.

Ingredients: jaggery, grated coconut.

Method:

  • Break a large piece of jaggery into small pieces.
  • Add some water in a hot pan and add the jaggery.
  • Let it boil till turns into a paste like consistency.
  • Then add the grated coconut.
  • Leave it for some time and remove it.
  • Then let it cool. Make it into small balls and store.
  • This snack can be stored for months unless it is hygienically used.
  • It is also rich in iron and fiber.
