Living man eats food. Food made energy to the body.

A balanced diet has the right amounts of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, mineral salts, vitamins, roughage and water.

The nutrients in our food are broken down into a simpler form in our body. This is called digestion. Digestion begins when we put food in to our mouth. Our teeth break the food into all small pieces. As we chew, a digestive liquid called saliva mixes with food.

Man does for physical work need carbohydrates. Rice, wheat and potato contain starch.

Carbohydrates are energy-giving food. They give heat and energy to do work. Sugar and starch are two carbohydrates.

Proteins food is for body building. They help to grow and help to rebuild tissues. This is for main to the children. Fish, meat, eggs, cheese, pea and pluses contain proteins.

A fat gives more heat and energy than starch or sugar. Oil, nuts and butter have fats in them. Fat help to keep body warm. Extra fat is stored in the body for feature use. Much fat is danger.

Vitamins keep healthy. More vitamins are made by green plants. Body needs small quantity of vitamins, but it continues regular. They help to fight disease in body. Vitamins are in Fresh vegetables, fruits, milk liver and eggs.

Minerals salts too keep the body fit and health. Help in the formation of bones, teeth and blood. Mineral salts are from fresh fruits, vegetables, milk and liver. Vitamins and mineral salts keep fit healthy and free from diseases. They are, therefore, called protective foods.

Why the important minerals and vitamins

Vitamins and minerals are important to the body. Man living healthy for reason of using balanced vitamins and minerals.

Iron, calcium, phosphorus, iodine, sodium are minerals. These are required by the body.

Iron is required for the formation of hemoglobin in the blood. Green leafy vegetables and liver are good sources of iron.

Calcium and phosphorus help to form strong bones and teeth. Milk is a good source of both calcium and phosphorus. Vegetables and pulses also contain calcium.

Iodine is necessary for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland. Iodized salt and salt-water fish are good sources of iodine.

Vitamins A, B, C, D, E and K are some types of vitamins. Vitamins B and C are soluble in water and vitamins A, B, E and K are soluble.

A is required for the proper function of the eyes.

Carrots, tomatoes, milk and butter milk contained A. vitamin. The liver fish like the shark and cod is a rich source of vitamin A.

B is necessary for digestion and growth. Egg, liver, milk and pulses are rich contained vitamin B.

C is essential for healthy muscles and teeth. Food rich in vitamin C are orange, lemon, lime, guava, amla and tomatoes.

D helps in the formation of strong bones. A food rich in vitamin D is liver. Vitamin D is also produced in the layer of fat under the skin in the presence of sunlight.

Vitamin K is helps in the clotting of blood. Vitamin K is found in leafy vegetables like cabbage and spinach. It is also produced in the large intestine by certain bacteria.
