When you approach a commercial make up artist they always have extremely bright lights in area where they work . Most bridal make up artists ask you to come to their salon for this reason. Most home lights near the mirror are not strong enough for perfect application of make up. The stage style bulbs around the mirror make you see every nuance of your make up . At home however we tend to ignore this essential rule of the light needed to do the make up

Textures of make up

When any professional speaks of textures of make up on a face, they mean one of the four-matte,shimmer,glitter and ultra-metallic. Different textures work in different times of the day or night and the right occasion. Using the wrong effect at any given time means u might not look your possible best and could either look overdone like a glittering Christmas tree or look washed out when the lights are too harsh in your surrounding area.

Shimmer vs glitter

Products that contain tiny particles in powder form are addressed as shimmer and glitter is made up of minerals or broken foil of metallic base which means bigger particles that reflect light to look glittery. While shimmer works best for cheek in most lights, glitter needs to be used with caution as it can make the face look futuristic. It is used with great effect and gets desirable effect on stage and is very popular with designers to accompany their fashion statement pieces on the model ramp

Night light

An evening out with only natural stars and moon and an odd candle needs a different make up effect as compared to night club with strobes and fluorescent effect which can highlight certain effects to great advantage. Fluorescent light is white and takes the warmth of colours. It also enhances blue and violet tones of make -up products. Avoid orange ,bright reds and yellow. The drama of fake eyelashes, high glossy effect or pearl effect products on eyes and cheeks should only be kept for night time effect

Long lasting make up

Unless you are a model doing ramp walk or  a film star whose make up is touched up before any retake or photoshoot, your make up needs to be of a level that you need not touch it up every few minutes. Depending on the length of your event, you need to select the make up products. If you wear glossy lip tint and have about 4 hours of official meeting where you cannot take a quick break to touch up your face, lip colour is going to spread out of the lip line and look awkward. And if you are going to see and emotional play or  it is a humid evening out in the open , wearing ordinary mascara could end up giving panda eyes when you want to look glamorous

If you must shed a tear while you are wearing make up, then lean forward and let the tears drop on a tissue napkin or ensure that you dab them while tilting your head to let them collect at the inside rim of the eye

Natural light

The reason why there is a sharp distinction between day wear and night wear in almost all make up products is that the two lights are totally diverse and will highlight different aspects of your make up. Natural light highlights the true colour and shades and textures of make up are clearly visible

The reason why most western brides have a natural make up is that their weddings take place in the morning and they are dressed in white or very pastel shades and these colours highlight their make up. Hence indian girls who get married during the day ceremony need to tone down their make up even if they are wearing dark colours including red and greens. Too much of make up alo begins to slide off and looks garish in natural light

The trick is to prepare the skin to your best ability-whether done professionally or at home. Natural makeup is an oxymoron but that is exactly what you need for facing the sunlight. The colours need to be muted ,well blended and the skin ought to be shine free for getting best results. " Is she wearing any make up or is that her real tone?" should be the questions people need to ask when they see you in day light. The only exception to that expression can be light eyeliner and mascara. And lip colour needs to be light, either lightly frosted or matte

CANDLELIGHT

candlelight is undoubtedly extremely romantic. Not only is that the reason for it to be placed at special restaurants meant for couples in love. Something about flickering light across a beautifully chiselled face makes the face look vulnerable, beautiful beyond what just make up can achieve

However it is important to note that while it will highlight the sultry looks of a woman, if you are at all overdone with too much glitter it will catch light in very small patches and make you look artificial and not a very pretty picture with contrasts of dark patches and bright glowing patches

Harsh evening lights

Here it will depends on the quality of light. While strong yellow light will dull the blue tones it will highlight red and warm shades of your clothes and make up. White fluorescent light which is effectively white will enhance the blue or violet tones of make up. so its not only about layering the right quantity of make up and using the correct amount of texture interplay it is also important to know where you will be sitting and standing. When you are unsure of the lights that would be used in any evening scenario, just think of whether there will be lots of photographs to be taken or not

As it is not always possible to know well in advance what will the lighting be in the venue where you are going, just select tones which would not clash heavily  with your clothes and the make up. A red lipstick that makes you look younger will look fine whether the light is yellow or white but if you are wearing orange lipstick, it will lose its effect in white light of the lamps and gives a totally sapped out effect

In conclusion : The light in which you will be seen in public is extremely important for you to choose the make up result you should try to achieve. However even more important is how confident you fell with the make up-less or more- that you have on at the time you are not in front of the mirror but in front of people

if you are going for a first time event, always experiment before the actual day. knowledge and confidence go hand in hand and if you are confident that you are looking good nothing else, including the light will make a dent in that feeling. Just smile and enjoy your moment in the limelight.
