INTRODUCTION:
AIDS was first discovered in 1981. AIDS is caused due to a virus called HIV-Human Immunodeficiency Virus. It damages the white blood cells which protects the body from disease and hence makes the body to become a prey to a wide range of disease causing microbes.HIV is communicated to other people by sexual contact, blood transfusion, from infected mother to child through breast feeding and unclean and used needles.

HIV is of group-VI (ssRNA-RT),family Retroviridae, genus Lentivirus. HIV is of two types. They are HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is common among individuals which has a greater risk of developing AIDS virus. HIV-2 is caused due to a strand of viruses called SIV (Simian Immunodeficiency Virus).HIV viruses multiply slowly but its presence can be seen only after 10 to 15 years.

TEST DONE TO DETECT AIDS VIRUS:
There are some tests to find out HIV. They are:
- Elisa test
