Pollution levels at our home could be at least three times higher than outdoor air pollution, as per the studies done by the Environmental Protection Agency.  There are many factors which leads to indoor air pollution like carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, radon and contaminants like mold and bacteria. The following columns will give information about improving the air quality in our homes in order to breathe clean air.

Precautions Against Indoor Air Pollution:

Carbon Monoxide:

As per the researches done by WHO (World Health Organisation),  there are at least three billion people all around the world who depend solely on cooking fuels which are solid. For instance, coal, dung, agriculture residues  and wood. When such fuels are used, great quantities of carbon monoxide is released in our homes, which pollutes the air.

Thankfully, such a problem, can be solved by modern technology. Now, we can replace such unhealthy cooking by adopting such modern methods of cooking like solar ovens which helps in cooking food perfectly and naturally by harnessing the solar energy.

One can even choose to cook their foods with modern cooking systems like Induction cook tops. This method of cooking uses the magnetic field in order to heat the induction top to cook food. Such type of cooking decreases carbon monoxide present in our indoor air.

Volatile Organic Compounds:

Common house hold paintings and coatings stand second in place in producing volatile organic compounds, the first place being given to automobiles. Such compounds are released especially while applying paints at our home. This kind of unhealthy air can lead to asthma and other allergies.

This can be eradicated by selecting no volatile organic compound paints or low VOC paints which are Eco-friendly, however they cost more than conventional paints. One can even opt for Eco-friendly paints, such as milk paints, earthly paints and lime washes. Painting homes with water based paints is an excellent initiation to reduce Indoor air pollution. Begin breathing fresh!
