After marriage, every new couple dreams of a new home – the place where they can weave their dreams together, far from the eyes of everyone. Now it’s very common in couples who live far away from parents. Soon after marriage they need to dwell in a new residence near working place. As it’s a new idea, most couples feel a little bit nervous while packing things for their new home. Though you are able to plan ahead, it’s not a big task to arrange a new home. If you do shopping noting your requirements and if you are able to mix a little creativity with your dreams, it is not at all a big task to arrange your home like a wonderland. Through this article, let me give a few tips to remember.

Before shopping

• Before buying new things, just make a list of things, which you already have. You should include the both – your accessories and your marriage gifts. If you combine both, it will almost be sufficient for a small family of two people. Then make a list according to your budget. Then you can start a lovely shopping of those missed and most important items.
• It’s a common practice – in the marriage thrill, new couples use to buy a lot of expensive and unwanted things. Instead of spending money lavishly, save a little for future purposes. Also, if you buy a lot of things, you need to find a lot of space in your home to place them all.
• If you are shifting to your own home, buy good quality furniture even if you need to spend more. For rental homes, opt cheap and less weight ones so that you can transport easily if required. Also, continuous transport of materials may damage costlier items. So, it is better to choose less expensive items for rental homes, so that you can dump them if damaged.
• If home is yours, buy furniture after calculating space of your rooms. But it’s not practical for a rental space as you may shift any time. If so, give importance to less weight and easily packing items.
• Give important to durability along with beauty. If you buy a sofa cum bed, you can use it for two purposes. Make maximum use of your furniture.
• Never think that you will use only new things for your new home. Instead, use old things making certain alternations bringing a little freshness. For example, you can make use of old cushions and pillows by giving new covers. Some times, second hand shop can help you to buy things in cheap rate.
• Buying appliances for your home by taking installments is a nice idea. But make sure, you are regular in paying its bills. Also, never think that you will shift home only after buying everything. After shift, you can buy items in future when you get money. 

Furniture and necessary ingredients

• If in-built shelves and cup boards are not found in the new home, buy wardrobes and almarahs according to your budget. It’s better to buy almarah with locker facility.
• If kitchen has a break fast table, no need of a dining table for a newly wedded couple.
• If you are buying sofa for a rental home, buy one with removable parts so that it helps you in packing when you shift to a new home. If it’s your own home, instead of traditional settee, choose one according to new trend. If you already have an old settee, change its cover to give a new look.
• One shelf with shutter is most essential for your kitchen. If it’s your home, construct a few inbuilt shelves.
• Buy cooking dishes and serving dishes, if you don’t have sufficient. If you are buying new pots, it’s better to choose ‘cook and serve’ ones. For that, copper bottom vessels are the best.
• Now, a set of pots with different sizes is available every where. Buy a few types. It can save a lot of kitchen space when not in use. Buy desired spoons for cooking purposes also.
• 3 stainless steel knives, a vegetable cutter, grater, filter etc should be kept. If both are working people, you can buy a sandwich maker and a chapatti maker also.
• Buy a plate set containing 6 plates and sufficient spoons for serving. You can buy both stainless steel and microwave type plates. Buy a few bowls too.
• Reserve a juice-glass set for guests and keep another set for daily use. Steel glass, coffee set etc can be bought as per your requirement. Now designed coffee glasses are also available in big shops. You can buy a pair for you too.

In your bed room

• While buying bed, just think of your kids in future. So, your bed should be big enough to accommodate them also. Keep a side table and chair also.
• Buy a few bed sheets and stitch a few pillow covers as well. Select a few colours to give freshness to your bedroom frequently.
• Buy mattress that suits your bed most. If your mattress has a protective cover, it’s the best. 

Now, to kitchen

• While choosing containers for kitchen, choose a 5-in-1 container to put 4 or 5 things together. Buy big containers for storing rice and atta powder.
• Buy separate kitchen towels for summer and rainy season. Choose thin towels for winter or rainy season so that they can be dried easily. Buy an apron to protect you from dirt and water.
• If you are buying a new fridge, never choose a small one. It helps to store more food. Buy gas stove with three or four burners so that you can save a lot of cooking time. Such stoves will be helpful particularly if both are working people. Induction cooker is also a good option, if you have scarcity in cooking gas.
• Buy a food processing mixer when you shift to a new home. It’s better not to buy a grinder in the first purchase. You can buy it later if desired.
• Buy a vegetable chopper. Now tufant glass, wood and fiber chopping boards are available in market. You can choose anyone as you desire.
• While buying frying pan choose both – shallow and bowl shaped. Buy a pressure cooker. Since you form a small family, a medium sized cooker is sufficient. Stainless steel cookers are easy to clean. You can buy water purifiers also.
• Buy kitchen utensils only that you require. Otherwise, it is a tedious process to clean them and store every time.

Cleaning purposes

• Place a waste basket in every room, at a corner. Choose open baskets and closed lid ones. For papers and plastic wastes, open basket is sufficient. For kitchen purposes, choose one that can be opened by pressing with your feet.
• Buy a laundry basket to place dirty clothes. Net, wood or plastic – you can choose anyone. Folding type laundry baskets are also available. If you buy baskets with air holes, clothes will get enough air circulation.
• If you are a busy person buy a fully-automated washing machine. Buy 2 or 3 mugs and two buckets also. Buy a plastic basin also.
• Even if you own vacuum cleaner, buy a few sweeps and mops for cleaning your home. Choose a cleaner than can be handled easily and clean the whole home traveling around.
• Buy a shoe rack to keep shoes. Buy shelves to keep books, newspapers and magazines. Buy a few colourful paper holders also, that can act as beautiful decorations for your interior.
• If you don’t have an inverter, buy an emergency lamp. You should essentially buy a torch.

For decorations

• Decorations are of two types – just decorations or those can be used for other purposes also. For example colourful mugs, bowls and glassware can be used and can be kept in shelves as decorative items.  Ash trays, bowls etc also come under this category while crystals can be placed in living rooms for decorative purposes only.
• Never buy a lot of decorations for your living room. Instead a few items according to your taste. Buy paintings only if we are an interested person. If you have time to spend for entertainment purposes, buy a plasma TV or music system.
• While buying painting, ask for its master copy also. Fix spotlight for picture and place it at right place without damaging your wall.
• Soft toys are good decorative items. But they should be kept dust free, inside closed show cases or covering by thin plastic sheets.
• Buy curtains that are easy washable. Choose them according to your budget. Choose light curtains for bed room and less spacious rooms.
• Old lamps, ornament box, decorative mats etc can be used for decorative purposes adding your creativity and arranging them in a nice way. Never use faded decorative items for your living room.

Now, let us fill the home with romance

• You can place a few romantic photos of yours in your bed room.
• Make attractive pillows for your bed room and provide attractive heart shaped candles also. Perfumed candles are also nice. Love candles give a romantic feel.
• Use only light colour curtains and cushions for your bedroom.
