Terrorist attacks have bled India once again. This time the theater of this inhuman, mad and reprehensible acts of terror was the cosmopolitan city of Pune. The victims are a few Indians along with a few foreigners. The psychology of the perverted minds is not difficult to read. In their quest to make their presence felt they are out to seek any target- be it soft or hard – to achieve their nefarious ends. They neither care for human rights, nor do they care for their own lives. The world has seen all kinds of terrorism- nuclear-terrorism, narco-terrorism, Islamic-terrorism but this form of terrorism is such a virulent and destructive form that all the nations need to close the ranks and formulate a joint and coherent, meaningful policy to weed out this menace from the face of this planet as it stands opposed to all civilizational values. But it is easier said than done. We have a most irresponsible neighbor in Pakistan which has been deceiving the world quite audaciously by continuing its support to the jihadi elements which are based on the soil of Pakistan while blackmailing the whole world into funding its so-called anti-terrorist operations.

What has been our response? It is as pedestrian and predictable as ever. From chest-beating to some renewed resolutions of declarations of war on terrorism, fresh promises to bring about improvement in internal security which mean very little to the common man and we resign ourselves to our fate waiting for the next attack of terror.

It is absolutely true that the United States of America is in a large measure responsible for the phenomenon we call international terrorism. The rise of Osama Bin Laden and taliban and Islami jihad, all owe to the dangerously short-sighted foreign policy of the USA. George Bush's middle-east adventure and involvement of the USA in Iraq has greatly helped Al Queda to grow stronger than ever before. Iraq war is proving too costly for it. Similarly the military solution it has been trying out in Afganistan is getting it nowhere.

In this scenario and looking at our geopolitical situation, India may have to address the issue of terror in the country from its own global perspective. It is hardly going to do us any good to constantly harping on Pakistan's involvement and kneel before the international community with folded hands to save us from this menace. Let us squarely face the fact that terror is something we have to live with. We have to increase our level of vigilance by keeping tabs on the activities of unknown faces and outsiders in our localities and sharing vital information with the local police authorities in our interest . Governments apart, we the citizens, have a vital role to play in the counter-terror operations .We simply can not take our security for granted. It goes to credit of the US administration ever since September 11, the homeland security has been tightened so effectively that no major terrorist attack could take place till now.
