WHY MUSLIMS ALWAYS A VOTE BANK
Poverty has no religion, no caste, no gender and no colour. Whereas the custodian of our constitution, the politics of our country always have a different cry in different tunes like, Hindu poor’s, Muslim poor’s, Christian poors and many more. Poverty is a desecration. It’s only a boon to our politicians which comes every 5 years, during which these human form demons can suck votes by giving false assurances. In the language of politics it is said that “gareebi hatao” (reduce poverty) is the most famous slogan. Never had this slogan gained any fruitfulness to the poor people, but the slogan has undoubtly given unprecedented success to our politicians in Indian context.
In 80’s the strategy of politics was based on ‘poor’(Recall the famous slogan of Indira Gandhi-gaeeibi hatao). But in 90’s this strategy slowly changed its colour to ‘caste’ and ‘religion’. In 1965 king martin Luther junior launched civil rights movement for minority negros. He demanded that the oppressed negros must be given financial assistances for their upliftment to main stream. But American government slashed his demand, owing to the provision of the constitution that “all are same in front of constitution”
The politics in the name of religion and caste got a start in morarji desai’s government in 1979. For recognition and upliftment of those who are socially, economically, and educationally backward, a committee was set up under the parliamentarian shri B.P.Mandal which gave its report in 1980 to form a separate group called ‘Other Backward Classes’(OBC). The report directed to give 27.5% reservation to OBC. But this report was untouched for 10 years until 1990 when V.P.singh, who was prime minister only for 10 months tenure, to gain political edge decided to implement it. Thus the seed for heinous the caste and religion based politics spread its root deeper and deeper, and the momentum thus began.
Now humans were began classified on the basis of religion, caste, sub-caste, sub-sub caste. In 2004, Andhra government by the workability directions made provision for 4% reservations for Muslim community. This was rejected by high court of Andhra Pradesh stating as unconstitutional. Again on 2005 October 5, AP government passed a bill in the assembly which provides 5% reservation to Muslims in govt jobs and education sector. This was a first of its kind in the country. This was also rejected in high court of AP. Still again in July 24 2007 the Andhra parliament a bill called “Muslims Reservation bill”. This bill was also again rejected in the High court this month. The AP government failed 3 times in the attempt to provide reservation to the Muslims. This month the West Bengal’s left government has announced a 10% reservation to the economically, socially and educationally lagging Muslim communities. This will be a key issue in the forthcoming municipality and state elections in May and June.
Owing to the status of the Muslims, socially, economically, and educationally, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his direction constituted a committee under justice R.Sachchar. The sachchar committee in his report stated that the reservation to the Muslims is not necessary, as it will all be enjoyed by the higher sections of the community and instead in current system 40 % of them are getting the reservation in form of OBC. Hence a reservation on a caste basis is unnecessary. But it was perhaps not suited the government, hence again in 2006 a committee headed by former chief justice Ranganath mishra was constituted by our prime minister. He stated three provision; firstly, Muslims should get 15% reservation in education and jobs; secondly, 8.4% of reservations be kept exclusively for Muslims out of 27% of OBC; thirdly, those dalit Hindus converted to Muslims they must be getting the same status to those of Muslims.
Perhaps this time it was liked to all parties as if waiting for a bill like this. This bill is waiting to be tabled in the house. But how long can this continue, when our so called prime minister is main culprit.we can recall here it was Mr.primeminister who had ordered to count Muslim heads in armed forces, but for what reason, surely to give reservation status in defence sector.
