Tata Nano is the most fuel efficient and low emissions car in India. Now I am not an environment freak but apparently environment is one of the major issues of the world. The Copenhagen summit later this which will supposedly extend the kyoto protocol beyond 2012 with much more stringent conditions, will come heavy on developing countries like India and China.
Now, a fuel efficient car with lowest emissions seems to align with environmental concerns but at the same time it will quadruple the no. of cars on the road. Now on one hand we advertise heavily to use public transport and on the other hand we have a car priced as low as to and fro New York to Bombay air ticket.
This is a difficult question -the balance between sustaining high growth rates vs. a healthy environment.
NANO is the most fuel efficient car in its class or so i have heard. And at that price tag streets will be flooding with NANO. Will be interesting to see how government keeps up with infrastructure required for coming onslaught.
In cities like London, New York etc even though there is world class public transport system, almost every house owns a car..but this does not mean that the public transport system is running in losses..Tata Nano will help improve the standard of living of a common urban Indian.Of course a good infrastructure to withstand the pressure must be in place
India has a long way to go when it comes to "sustainable development"
