*Satyrs

  • In Greek mythology these half-men, half –goats were associated with music and merriment.

*Pegasus

  • This legendary winged horse was given to prince Bellerophon to help him conquer the chimera.

*Mermaids

  • Half -human and half –fish, mermaids and mermen lured sailors to their deaths under the sea with their singing.

*Centaur

  • Part-horse, part-man, the centaurs were savage creatures who represented the wild and law less behavior of humans.

*Criffins

  • These fabulous animals had an eagle’s head and wings and a lion’s body. Criffins guarded the sun and its hidden treasures.

*Phoenix

  • A fabulous bird with gold and purplish feathers. In Egyptian myth, the phoenix sacrificed itself to fire and arose, reborn, from its own ashes.

*Chimera

  • This fire –breathing beast had a lion’s head, a goat’s body, and a serpent’s tail. A mountain dweller, her fiery breathe was said to be reason for volcanic eruptions.

*Dragons

  • This enormous, lizard like creatures breathed fire. They liked to steal treasure, which they then guarded zealously. European dragons were said to represent the evil of humans. Asian dragons brought wealth and good luck.

*Sirens

  • Half –woman, half-bird, the sirens lived on rocky souls of the dead who envied the living. The sirens were thought to be the unhappy souls of the dead who envied the living.

*Unicorn

  • The unicorn had a horse’s head and body, a deer’s legs, a lion’s tail, and a single horn in the middle of its forehead. This mythical animal represented purity. The horn also had the power to detect and purity poison.

 

*Sometimes frogs and toads eat so much glowworms that they are lit up from inside.

*Bat’s ears `switch off’ when the click is made. They `switch on’ a millisecond later to listen to the echo.

*Dinosaurs ruled the earth for a mind-boggling 165 million years!
