India is a country of villages. According to Mahatma Gandhi, "Real India lives in villages of India". Majority of our population lives in villages. Only a small percentage is settled in cities and towns. Thus to make our country developed and to help it in its progress and bring its prosperity, development of villages must be done.

Life in villages is very simple. There is no daily hectic schedule as seen commonly among people of metropolitan cities. Life in villages is of total contrast when compared with life in cities. Cities are completely polluted whereas villages are free of dust and dirt. There is pure air to breathe, pure water to drink and simple life to live. Nature is at its best over there. Scenes of growing plants, shadowed trees and sun green fields are mesmerizing. Old traditions and cultural values are still preserved over there. People are helpful and co-operative. Villages are not crowded unlike cities which are densely populated.

Occupation of villagers is mainly agriculture. They are totally dependent on it. Due to modernization and scientific growth, new methods of cultivation are used in some villages. But even now old and backward methods of cultivation are seen in most of the villages. Villagers are not employed all round the year. Their talent gets wasted as they spend enough time doing nothing and having enough leisure. This does not work in their interest, nor does it wok in the interest of the country. Government should set up small scale and large scale industries over there but must take care of not spoiling the beauty and serenity of those spots. Thus, people over there will get employed. It will keep them busy. They can earn their living and will achieve financial stability. This will help in the development of individuality and in turn the development of village which will favor the development of our country.

Main problem of villagers today is they are illiterates. Need of the hour is to educate them. Primary schools should be set up so that children can pursue at least basic education. Night schools set up can help farmers and other adults who are busy working during the day time to complete their elementary education. There are no proper medical facilities in villages. They need to travel to cities to get medical aid or else try home remedies to get well. Hospitals should be opened and good staff should be appointed over there to bring awareness among people related to diseases, infections, treatments etc..... Health care centers should be established which creates awareness regarding prevention of diseases, maintaining cleanliness etc..... Villages should be linked with cities by good roads. This will help good transportation facilities linking cities with villages. This enables the villagers to sell their raw products into cities and purchase finished goods and amenities of day to day interest from cities.

Thus, if needs and requirements of villages of our country are fulfilled their development is assured. Life over their becomes worth living. Facilities like light, water, education, employment, recreation should be made available to people of villages and this can make their life ideal and perfect. Measures have been taking place but yet much more has to be done. Village people must also equally co-operate and work hard towards their development and prosperity which can make them successful. In this way once villages of India develop and prosper, India as whole will become a developed country.
