Have you heard the story of the spider spinning its web?

While spinning its web, the spider slipped somehow and ended up hanging in the air on its own tread. It tried to climb back up onto the web, but slipped down again. Again, it tried to climb up-once, twice, thrice... seven times. It failed each time but did not give up. The spider tried again for the eighth time and was successful.

What do you learn from this? A person with determination does not give up easily what he wants to achieve. He/ she tries till success comes and they achieve what they set out to do. A determined person is admired and respected by others.

A whole lot of determination

Heather Whitestone was born in Alabama in 1973. After her birth, she became severely ill. Somehow, the doctors managed to save her but she lost her hearing ability.

Heather’s deafness caused a lot of anguish to her parents. After a lot of running around, they managed to get her special treatment through, which Heather learnt to speak. Also, her ability to hear improved a little with the use of a hearing aid.

She attended a public school where she had to work much harder than the other. As a child, she developed a special love for dancing. While struggling with the school and other hardships of life, she continued to develop her dancing talent. Despite her disability, she was determined to be successful in whatever she did. She continued to work hard and become a very good dancer. She then entered several contests and pageants.

In 1992 and 1993, heather was selected as the first runner-up in the Miss Alabama pageant. Disappointed at not making to the top she continued to improve her dancing talent.

Finally in 1994, she was selected as Miss Alabama. She went on to contest in the Miss America pageant and become Miss America despite her disability. Heather proved her worth to herself and the world.

Follow your dreams and go with lots of hard work and determination. Some people give up too soon when the task seems difficult.

Have you seen a kite flying? It rises against the wind not with it. That is to say difficult circumstances should not make you quit. Keep working hard to reap the rewards and be a champion in life.

``Find out what it is that interesting you and that you can do well, and then put into it every bit of energy and ambition and natural ability you have’’.
